CANFIELD, George Morris, whom arrived in Wagner South Dakota in the 20's and married Hermina Bucholtz in Avon, South Dakota... George CANFIELD was a county tax accessor, and on the school board for a period of years....He died in 1939 and was 45 years old... He has no trace of history from the previous years before arriving in Wagner...We think that he used to receive letters that were post marked from Ironwood, Michigan...thinking that there may have been a relative or friend who lived there..His family never was told of his past , or about relatives or where he came in from.... He also broke wild horses for some of the county folks. He and Hermina had many children but they have checked in to all sources and haven't been able to find birth records, on him.... Sure would like some help.... --------------------------------------------------

Charles G. STUART, b. 1853 in Chemung/Schuyler co., NY was a resident of Platte, Charles Mix co., S. Dakota c. 1910. I was transcribing a diary from Schuyler co., NY and found his name in the address section. I am related to STUART's in Schuyler co. but am not exactly sure how Charles' family ties in. I can tell you that Charles G. STUART was son of Mark STUART, b. 1830 in Chemung co., NY, a boat builder. Mark STUART's wife was Julia, b. 1833. I don't know of any siblings for Charles G. STUART, but he had an unmarried aunt Gennett /Jennette STUART (b.1835)who lived in Montour Falls, NY and Charles & his wife once visited her there around Feb. 8, 1910. Would love to compare notes and see how these tie into my STUARTS, which can be traced back to 1661 in Connecticut. If interested, or if my email doesn't work, please visit the Schuyler co., NY genweb site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyschuyl/ which I coordinate.

My grandfather, Jacob MORTVEDT, moved to Bloomington, SD in 1894 from Clay County to farm some land, but we are not sure if he rented land or purchased it. He moved to Dell Rapids, SD in November, 1896. Just prior to moving east,on Sept. 14, 1896 he received correspondence from Attorney Harry KUNKLE of KUNKLE & KUNKLE, Centerville, who was trying to get money for him from the failed Citizens' Bank of Centerville on some land deal. On April 15, 1897, Mr. KUNKLE sent him $175 from the bank's assets to settle some account. Are there any records of my grandfather's holdings in Charles Mix County? He was a friend of Rev. G. NORBECK who lived in that area near Geddes. I am also wondering where Bloomington was in relation to Geddes? Thank you.

Looking for anything on Llyod SMITH & wife Beatrice DUNN SMITH. Children were Robert & Russell Smith. Lloyd SMITH graduated Geedes High School 1925. Are there any records available anywhere? Also looking for info on Mary Jane WINKLER LEHR who was in 1920 census living with Franklin SMITH family in Draper, Murdo or Geddes, SD. I think they moved to the area around 1902. Any info on family would be deeply apreciated. I have the SMITH family obits, but I can't find anything out about what happened to Mary Adeline SMITH's mother Mary Jane WINKLER LEHR. Any suggestions you have would be deeply appreciated. In Mary's obit it stated that she visited her brother and sister before she died. It also stated she was prominent in town. Do you have more info on that? Do you know what church they attended and if there are any school or church records that might give me info on grandparents? I know that she had a brother Frank LEHR living in the immediate Draper, Geddes, Murdo area. Frank LEHR and his daughter (Grace DRUM LEHR) owned land. Any info on the Lehr families would be deeply appreciated. I'm trying to find out how long they stayed in the SD area. I know they went to San Francisco area around late 1930's? perhaps after Mary SMITH died in 1935. Mary's sister Elnora Alice LEHR POPE lived in Denver, Co in 1920 census and was in Birmingham, AL in 1930 census. Trying to also find her death date and place. Thank you so much for your time and efforts. Sandy At a brick wall. Thanks, Sandy

This is a request for a connection to Charles Mix Country: CHARLES CZULEGER was trained in animal husbandry—worked on a ranch in South Dakota—in the early 1920’s- He married OLIVE RAYMOND, she was one of 11 children. Her family often would travel to California for the winters. After CHARLES and OLIVE had the first two of their eventual nine children, they moved their family to California! It seems that many of the RAYMOND family might still be in the area. OLIVE's family came from Canada. We think they lived in Bonesteel, Charles Mix, South Dakota.

My family was well known in Charles Mix County/Platte, SD from what I understand. You would know them as the DELIRE family, the most senior being, Pierre or Peter Delire and his wife, Barbara. Please help me find the people who started this family. I am searching for a man named Ephriam GREGOIRE who married Mary Alphonsine LE BLANC on April 12,1883. She could be known by Alphonsine she might have dropped Mary from her name. Alphonsine LE BLANC was born May 16,1860. I do not know any information on their parents. To this union three children were born : Mary O. GREGOIRE DOB: August 17,1886. Victor Ephrem GREGOIRE DOB: March 2,1889, in Souix City, Iowa. Victor GREGOIRE died November 14,1961, in Geddes, Charles Mix County, South Dakota. Mary Eugenia O.GREGOIRE DOB: October 24,1890, she might have been born in Iowa also. She went by Eugenia REGAN when she died December 27, 1959, in Minnesota. I have no dates of Ephriam's birth, where he was born, or who was his parents. I do not know where Ephrem and Alphonsine were married. I do not know where their daughter Mary O. GREGOIRE was burried. Mary died from polio or something like that at age 12 or 13 (so that would be about 1898 or 1899). Ephrem might have came from Canada and the children might have all been born in Souix City, Iowa. The information that I have said that Ephriam and Alphonsine GREGOIRE farmed in Canada but it does not say nothing else. Many girls were born with the first name Mary because back in the 1800's in Canada Mary was the name to name all little girls but as the girls grew up most went with their middle names as their legal names. Please if someone can help I would very much appreciate the help. Thank you and Blessings to you all. She was then married to Edward SCOTT, in Charles Mix County, SD. Moved to Lake Andes, SD, in or around 1900's. in info would be greatly appreciated. Had two Children two this marriage Mary and Louis SCOTT. Please help with any information.
