Codington County ANDERSON Anderson/Andreasson Family: of Augumentsgården, Magra parish, Älvsborg Län, Sweden. The parents were: Andreas Svensson, born November 27, 1803 in Melby, married to Annika Larsdotter, born November 5, 1810 in Magra. Their children are: Anders Andreasson, born May 20, 1830 in Magra-no sign of him Maja Andreasdotter, born June 29, 1832 in Magra married 1855 to Johannes Jonsson born 1829 with children: Anders, born 1856, Gustaf, born 1858, Anna Greta, born 1861, and Christina, born 1864-this family took over Augumentsgården after Andreas Svensson. Anders Andreasson, born January 12, 1836 in Magra married 1866 to Inga Kasin Håkonsdotter Kronn, born July 25, 1843 in Skarstad with children: Augusta, born March 27, 1867, Anna Greta, born January 31, 1869, Carl Herman, born December 31, 1870, Johan Albin, born march 21, 1873, Fritz Theodor, born March 11, 1875, Johanna Sofia, born June 7, 1877, Elin Kristina, born August 22, 1880, and Naëmi Emma, born May 19, 1882, all born in Skarstad. A son Calmar shows up in South Star, SK. Canada in 1903, likely born after the family emigrated to America May 15, 1885- the oldest daughter, Augusta had emigrated in 1884- Their destination in America is a mystery, I suspect Minnesota. Anders, his wife, Inga, the daughter Emma Naëmi, and Calmar move to Star City (South Star district), Saskatchewan in 1903 homesteading. The parents end their lives there..Emma married Olaf Erickson and they lived their lives there with their own descendants, which I have record of. The Lac qui Parle Historical society had an enquiry about Andersons from some people from Watertown, SD, so perhaps that is where some of the missing Andersons went to. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

In addition, I am seeking information on an H.M. I am looking for information on Major DEMOREST. I have a photograph of him and it is stamped Codington County, Watertown, SD. His daughter Genevieve DEMOREST JOSEPHSON was a resident of Sioux Falls SD from 1913-1963. I would like to know more about the Major. Genevieve was born in 1883, so I assume that the Major was born in the early to mid 1800's. I do not know if his given name was Major or if it was a title. The Major is wearing the following pins in the photograph: In the knot of his tie, what appears to be two bugles crossed, horn parts pointing down. A round pin with a dark center. A 5-point star on a bar. A rectangle pin or patch with wings on it. An old-style cross, appears to have 4 inverted triangles coming from a solid center. --------------------------------------------------

I am looking for information concerning Franklin P. KEHRER who lived in Watertown, SD, during the 1920s and maybe longer. It was noted in the obituaries of his mother (Alleen Higgins Kehrer) (1927) and father (Franklin P. Kehrer) (1922) that he was living in Watertown during those years. If anyone has access to a city directory and could look up his name for me ....if someone could look up vital records for a marriage record, birth record of a child or a death record for Franklin Kehrer, I would be most appreciative. I am sorry I do not know the name of his wife. However, the name KEHRER was not a common name. Judy

I am seeking information on James and Katherine FARLEY who moved to Henry, SD sometime in the latter 1800's. Katherine's maiden name was either STANTON or SANTON. James FARLEY died 8 Jan 1905. Katherine, I don't know. James is buried somewhere in SD, Henry, I presume. They were both born in Ireland and came to the US sometime around 1848, settling for at least a time in Newton, IA (my great grandfather Thomas FARLEY was born there in 1877). I don't know if they were married in Ireland or in the US. I also don't know if any of the family stayed in the area. They were Catholic if that helps any. I am looking for a place of burial, any obituary that might have been written and/or any other type of information relating to where in Ireland they are from and who parents were. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ernie

I am looking for information on the DEVRIES families, WAGNER families and MILLER families in the area. My great-grandfather immigrated to Codington County in 1906. His name was EDWARD DeVries. I have an uncle in Watertown of the same name and an Aunt (Mary) of South Shore. My Father was Francis DEVRIES and my grandfather was Leo DEVRIES. His father, Edward, immigrated to the US in 1906 from Holland or Luxembourg. I know that he had brothers Andrew and Lorenz and a sister Hedska who did not come over to the US. I know his name was drawn by lottery to come to the US instead of going into military service. He married Mary KRIER of Appleby and they had 4 children, Laurence, Clara, Leo (my grandfather) and Marie DEVRIES JANKORD. My great aunt Marie still lives in Kranzburg and attends Holy Rosary Catholic Church. I do not know any more about the KRIER's and would like more information. My grandmother was Helen Ann (Hazel) WAGNER. She was the daughter of Ben (1879-1963) and clara MILLER WAGNER. My grandmother was their only child as Clara died in 1929. His father was John Peter WAGNER. His mother was Maria Margareta SUTTOR wagner. This family immigrated from Christnach LUXEMBOURG in 1883. They had 15 children. One of their son's, Henry Adam WAGNER, was mayor of Watertown in the early 1900's. I know Maria Margareta was also a midwife to many in the area. Any information from anyone would be much appreciated. I also have a bit more information about the families after their arrival in the US, but none before.

*SALVATION ARMY IN WATERTOWN* My grandfather and grandmother, P.Carl and Lillian ELLIS did work for the Salvation Army in Watertown in 1914. In fact one of their sons, Edwin M. ELLIS was born there. Does anyone have any photos or stories about the Salvation Army in this town? Grandpa and Grandma moved about every year or two, so the time frame would be close to the 1914 I mentioned. My father, Jerome ELLIS would have been two years or so when they lived there. --------------------------------------------------

FRENCH,TSCHAKERT,KLIMPLE,WOODARD,WHITE,ORTHAUS... I am researching the ancestry of William French and Mary Tschakert, who were husband and wife. They were married in Codington county. Mary Tschakert was the daughter of Lawrence and Theresa(Klimple)Tschakert. She had brothers and sisters named Lawrence, William, Frank Joseph, Paulina, Rose, and Anna. Her paternal grandmother lived with the family also and her name was Rosalee Tschakert. I have no information on the paternal grandfather, Rosalee's husband. Nothing on Theresa's(Lawrence's wife and Mary's mother)parentage(Klimple). William French was living with an aunt in Day county according to his marrigage certificate. In the town of Andover. I checked the familysearch.org site and found a William French age 11 who resided with a Seldon and Polly Woodard. It was stated that he was a nephew. The age matches that of our William French and they also resided in Day county. so I am also interested in anyone who might have information on Seldon and Polly Woodard. Mary Tschakert's sisters(two of them) married into the White and Orthaus families.

Looking for info on George B. HARTMAN (dob 1854 NY) and his wife, Mary Jane (O'CONNOR) HARTMAN. They came to SD sometime after 1880 and Mary Jane was struck by lightning and killed in 1885. I think she was buried in Watertown, Codington County, SD. I found a land patent for Geo. in Clark County in 1889-90. He also married his wife's sister, Johanna, maybe in 1890? They returned to Alex. Bay, NY, where they show up in the 1920 and 1930 census. Could someone do a lookup for MJ's obituary or a cemetery listing for where she's buried? Thanks.

Are there any divorce records available for Codington Co. 1886-87? I am trying to find out when my G-Aunt Clara YORKS DAVIS must have divorced her husband, Fred Edson DAVIS. They were married in Michigan in 1885. In 1886, Clara's father and family migrated to Henry, Codington Co., SD. In 1887, Clara married William ANDERSON in Codington Co., SD I found that Fred DAVIS died in Wisconsin in 1892. My thought is that Clara Yorks Davis & Fred Edson DAVIS migrated with her parents.

I am searching for information on the STODDARD family. I believe that a Lloyd STODDARD lived in Watertown. Lloyd would have been the cousin of my mother Hazel RANEY FREI. Her uncle Jesse M. STODDARD would be Lloyd STODDARD'S father. Lloyd was born in LuVerne, Iowa May 8, 1918. I believe that he died in Watertown in May 1975. I am working on the genealogy my Great grandfather Azel Stoddard, Civil War veteran and the father of Jesse and my grandmother Flora Belle STODDARD RANEY.

Greetings all... I'm the wife of the current rector of Trinity Episcopal church (founded in the late 1800's). I've come accross some wonderful old photographs that may be of interest to some. I'm not sure if there are names on all of them, but I know there was some effort made to identify folks in the old photos. I'm going to try to dig up some old membership records. If anyone knows of an ancestor that may have lived in Watertown and was an Episcopalian, I may be able to help you out.

I am searching for the grave of Anna (Thoe) HARRAMB who died in 1927 while a patient at Yankton State Hospital. She is not buried in Yankton. She lived with THOE siblings in Codington County (Wallace area) before entering the hospital and I wonder if they buried her there. She was the daughter of Odd and Brita THOE who homesteaded in Wheatland Tsp, Day County. She married and lived in Minnesota but came to SD after her husband's death. She had a daughter, Tonette, who also died in SD. If anyone comes across the surname HARRAMB in cemetery records, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Kathy

Searching for the grave of Anna (THOE)HARRAMB who died March 9, 1927 in Yankton State Hospital. She was the daughter of Odd K Thoe of Wheatland Tsp, Day County and sister of Jacob and Gilbert THOE of Wallace and Edward and Knut THOE of Watertown. She was born in Norway in 1854 and immigrated in 1872 to MN with her THOE family. She married a HARRAMB in MN and had a daughter named Tonette. Following her husband's death she lived with family members in Day and Codington counties. She and daughter are listed in the 1900 census living with her father Odd THOE in Wheatland Tsp. I have been unable to find her burial site and wondered if she was buried in Codington county. Several of her THOE family members are buried in the St. Pauli Church Cemetery. If anyone should come across this unusual surname in cemetery listings I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Kathleen Sigdestad --------------------------------------------------

WAUGH,Charles Leroy DOB: 1868 Missouri Married: Mary G. Geppert abt 1883 Resided in Brule County, SD after marriage QUESTION: Has anyone every heard of a county in Missouri called "Cudington" (or something close to that spelling)?. Charles Waugh, according to census records, death cert and even a write up in "South Dakota Historical Collections" pg 510, states: Charles was born in "Cudington County", MO. It further states Charles's father was sheriff of this County (Cudington)and was shot by a man whom the posse later shot. Charles Uncle "Carl" raised Charlie after his fathers death. No surviving family can give me further. His death cert. states unknown for both parents. I even played with the idea that perhaps they meant "Codington" County, in SD. Im not sure how or if geographically that could be possible in 1868. Can anyone give me a bit of insight Kathy

UPDATED INQUIRY - NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS My grandfather, PETER MILLER, and his family moved from Chicago to Watertown or Cordington County in about 1920. While I have no evidence to support it, I believe they were part of a group of GERMAN-RUSSIAN immigrants who may have been recruited to agricultural jobs in the area (sugar beets or dairy farm?). They lived near a "Youngquist" farm just outside of Watertown. If anyone could shed light on the possibility of GERMAN- RUSSIAN workers arriving in the Watertown area in the very early 1920s, I'd be most grateful. EDDY - I am searching for more information regarding my great grandfather, Thomas Valentine EDDY, or T.V. Eddy. He resided in Watertown from at least 1882 to possibly 1889. I believe his brother, Robert L. Eddy, also resided in the area. Thomas V. Eddy was also involved in the delegation that went to Washington for the purpose of dividing the state into two. Specifically, I am searching for any photos or additional history about him. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
