The Family History Library in Salt Lake City is the main repository of all the genealogical information the
Church has collected. But you don't have to trek all the way to Utah to use the resources of this library.
More than 4500 branches of the main library, known as Family History Centers, are located throughout the world
to help people search for the records of their ancestors. These records include vital, census, land, probate,
immigration, and church records, as well as many other records of genealogical value.
Visitors to the Family History Center may use family history computer programs and databases developed by the
Church, search the Center's book and microfilm collection, or order microfilms and fiche from the Family History
Library's collection to use in the Center.
The use of the Family History Center is free, and everyone is welcome. The only items that have a cost connected
to them are computer printouts or copies, floppy disks, CDs, and microfilms or fiche ordered from the Family History Library.
We ask that you sign in on the patron sheet; this lets us know who is interested in classes and also how many are using the FHC.
Church and community volunteers are on hand to answer questions and lend assistance. We can not
do actual research for you, but we will help you organize information so you can start your own research, make suggestions
and assist you in selecting and ordering microfilm and microfiche. Our goal is to teach individuals how to use computers
and other resources to help identify their ancestors and link them together in families.
The FHC is not a lending library, but a reference library. The film, fiche, and other reference materials must stay in the
Center so they are available to whoever needs to search them.
