I am seeking a RUSSELL family who resided in the Grant Co. area on the
1900 Grant co. cenus. They were in Lura township which borders Day
county. Mother "Amilia" lived with son Fred and his family. Amilia came
to this country in 1852 and was born in Denmark. Other RUSSELL children
who moved to SD include:
Henrietta RUSSELL b. abt. 1861, Severena
Nickolina RUSSELL b. abt. 1862,
Frederick RUSSELL b. abt 9/1865 who married Emma,

A. HANSON (born Oct. 5, 1857? in Norway) and wife Kari ELLEFSON (born
March 12, 1853) in Allamakee County Iowa) homesteaded on Sisseton
Wahpeton Indian Researve in South Dakota in 1892. Unfortunately I don't
know where on the reserve - so could be any of 4 counties. They have four
sons, Ellert Olous 15 yrs old, Helmer Hartman, 9 yrs old, Bert Arthur,
Wilhelm (Bill) Egedius, Ellef Herriet, and Lloyd Eugene b July 24, 1892.
as told by Helmer Hartman Hanson. Looking for any information,
particularly clues as to what if might have meant in 1892 to have settled
on the Indian Reservation. They left in 1903 for Saskatchawan,
Canada.

They had 2 daughters Lena (WEIDE)DEMKE and Anna (WEIDE) REETZ. Herman

Emily died when Lena was about 8 and Hermann died when she was about 12,

I am interested in finding info on a family from Big
Stone City, Grant County, South Dakota.
The parents are Jackson BUHLER and his wife, Emma. Jackson was born in
Indiana, then moved to Minnesota where he met and married Emma LENZ
(sometimes spelled LENTZ), and then moved to Big Stone City, South
Dakota. I am told that he died there in 1902. Their children were
Elizabeth (Mrs. John Murphy), George Jackson, Charles, Anna, Edward and
William. Elizabeth was born in Minnesota, but all of the rest of the
children were born around Big Stone City. George on July 23, 1882,
Charles in 1885, Anna in 1887, Edward in 1888 and William on June 24,
1891. Charles died in 1896 and Anna died in 1901 and both are supposed
to be buried in Big Stone City.
I am interested in finding obits, census information, marriage info and
anything that you might have on this family.

HUTCHINS. My
ggrandfather Edward James HUTCHINS (b. Nov 1857) and his wife Mary E.
BLAIR (b. 10/30/1861) were apparently in Marvin, Grant County, in 1885.
My great-uncle Sayles Edward HUTCHINS lists his date and place of birth
as May 21, 1885 in Marvin on his military service record. I have them in
Union County for the 1880 census, and by 1888 they were in Eau Claire.
Any help in tracking this family or their offshoots during the 1880-1888
period would be very much appreciated. I am stumped, and cannot find
anything linking them to Grant County during this time, other than the
military service record of my great-uncle.

Co., WI, the son of Joseph and Olive (SALISBURY) MANLEY. His parents
moved to O'Brien County, IA in the 1870's. Junius MANLEY moved to
Milbank, Grant County, South Dakota about 1901 and was in 1915 the

for information about John ANDERSON and Karin BERGLUND who, according to
my information, were married in Revillo, South Dakota (in Grant County)
on May 2, 1891. I would like a copy, if possible, of their marriage
certificate.
Also, my Mother, Ruth Sigfrid ANDERSON, received what looks to be a
certificate of confirmation, membership, or baptism (something like that)
when she was about 16 years old. It's from the "Svenska Krisna Missions
Kyrkan den 14th Juli i town of Vernon 1912", which I believe is the
Swedish Missions Friends Church. It was signed by Carl C. BORGLIN,
Ortonville, Minn. I believe it was the Township of Vernon in Grants
County. The family owned a farm in Yellow Bank Township in Minnesota
near Ortonville. I would like confirmation of the existence of this
church in Grant County and whether or not it still exists.

youngest daugther of John HERMANS and Malena (ELVIK) HERMANS. They were
married in Milbank, SD. John's father was Henry HERMANS, he had a farm
outside of Milbank, Melrose township. I am looking for Henry's parents.
I know his fathers name was John HERMANS. His wife is unknown to me.
Henry was born in De Pere, Wisc in 1870, his brother John was born in
Green Bay, Wisc in 1864. John and Henry came to SD in 1879 from Wisc
with several other families of Dutch origin. They took up homesteads in
the northern part of Melrose township next to Whetstone creek. Also my
grandmothers family lived in this area. My grandmother was Harriet
CORNELSON. Her parents were Francis CORNELSON & Regina (PETERS)

for information regarding a tornado that hit the Wilmont,SD area on 6-17-
1744.
Members of the GATES family were killed during that storm. Vern GATES,
age 47 and his son, Elvert GATES, age 13 died in the Wilmont area.
Vern's wife, Mabel Marie (POWERS) GATES, died in Milbank, SD the
following day. Perhaps she was transported to a hospital there.
I would like to find the news article relating to this storm and their
deaths. Does anyone have any idea where the closest newspaper was
published? Does Wilmont still exist? I'm having a hard time finding any
info on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
