It's my fish story and I'm stickin' to it

Fishing season is once again upon us and everyone has their own fish story. Some are not really believable, kind of like mine, but I’m telling it anyway. We had gone fishing at Ruby Marshes outside Ely, Nev. (because Ruby Marshes is loaded with fish and you can always catch your limit … ya, right.) At dawn, I sat myself down on the south bank and waited for my first bite of the day. And waited and waited and waited. By late afternoon my face was nicely burned from ear to ear. No fish, but the face nicely burned. Fearing I wouldn’t be tan enough, I moved around to the west bank and continued tanning. Still no fish.

However, there was a lone fisherman off to my right within talking distance. He would cast out, catch a fish, cast out, catch another fish, and so on. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for my FIRST bite of the day! Finally, in desperation, I asked him what he was using and he said it was a Mepp’s Rooster Tail. I had never heard of such a thing and he showed me what it was.

Now for the "believe it or not" part of this fish tail … I cast out, snagged something and when I finally brought it in it was … I swear this is true … a Mepp’s Rooster Tail. Praise the Lord, it was truly a miracle! God truly blessed me on this fishless day! The remainder of the day was total desperation as I cast out, reeled in, cast out, reeled in, etc. We may have come home empty-handed, but we do still have that miracle rooster tail.

And I can’t even begin to tell you about my sunburn that passed the tanning stage at about noon. The next morning I awoke with my eyes swollen nearly shut. What little vision I had left was blurred by the cheeks that swelled up into the eyes and the swollen nose that filled in the rest of the area. The lips looked like something right out of the pages of National Geographic!

At least I didn't have to clean fish.......
