ROTVIK, My grandparents, Peter and Benta ROTVIK, came to Flandreau, SD from Oslo, Norway between 1905 and 1907.
My father, Arnold, was born in Olso 6/22/1905. The next three ROTVIK cildren were all born in Flandreau. Katherine in 1907, Janice on 6/25/1911 and Audrey on 1/25/1917. The last ROTVIK child, Curtis, was born in Duluth MN on 3/23/1923, so the family moved from SD to MN between 1917 and 1923. Peter ROTVIK was born Peter JORGENSEN in Rotvik, Norway and took the name of his home village some time during his move from Norway to the United States. Any detailed information on this family and/or other Moody County families that were related or traveled with my grandparents, will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for information on SMITH in the Colman/Flandreau area. My Great Grandfather, Harry B. Smith & his 2 brothers, Edward & Charles, were sent to live with their grandparents, John & Sarah Smith, after their mother died in 1877. The were sent by railroad to SD from Iowa. If anyone knows anything about this family please let me know. My family knows little about them & would like to trace this family tree.

Does anyone knows exactly where in Canada was Hans HANSON born on 7 February 1862? A farmer of Jefferson Twp., Moody Co., SD, he was the first son of Gjert HANSON (1829-1902) and his first wife, Petrine TORSTEINSDATTER (1829- after 1885), both of Clare Twp., Moody Co., SD. When he died on 29 June 1907, he left behind a widow, the former Anna Elisabeth PAULSON, a daughter and an invalid son. His death certificate and obituary weren't any help; they both just named "Canada" as his birthplace.

I am looking for any information on Art GLEASON, GLEESON (my gguncle) who lived and died in Egan, Moody County, South Dakota. He had a sister named Harriet (GLEASON, GLEESON) SHELMAN (my gggrandmother) with whom he visited almost every winter with in Arkansas. It is said their mother's name was Susannah or Susanna and that they had a lot of brothers and sisters but I am not sure of these facts.

My Grandmother; Lucille CRYAN HAREMZA I believe may have been married and lived in Flandreau SD (Moody) Country in 1925,26, to maybe 1928 or 29. She married Anothny HAREMZA during this time. I am trying to trace a record of Anothy Haremza. Lucille CRYAN was from around Havana, ND. My father Wayne HAREMZA was born in Flandreau. I am trying to find information on an ancestor who lived in South Dakota around the time of Silver Cloud, Sitting Bull, etc. His name was George KNICKERBOCKER, and his wife's names was Nellie "Sarah" Jones. They had a son named Harry Knickerbocker. According to family oral history, George Knickerbocker was a direct line descendent of Johanas (sp.?) Knickerbocker and he was the Colonel of South Dakota for some years, which was somewhat like the office of governor in those days. I am searching for information about my gr-gr-grandparents who lived in Moody Co. in the early 1900's. Harry George and Mary Ellen FALCONER SMITH had three daughters, Edna b. 1900, Mildred b. 1902, and Helen b. aby 1908. They moved to Moody Co. S.Dakota in about 1910 and Edna married Albert HILLSTEAD. They raised 9 children in Watertown, S. Dakota. Does anyone connect with this family?

HOLBECK, John ----died Feb 1973 in Flandreau, Moody County, South Dakota. John was born 12 May 1885 but we do not know where. We do not know the names of his parents or where they were born. He received his social security card in 1955 and so did a relative who also lived in South Dakota, Nels Christiansen. They must have gone together to file for their cards the same day in the same location. NEED information from John's death certificate. Place of birth, parents names and so forth. Also any obit naming relatives who might have attended the funeral. John was a skip out Dad and we have no information about him as he abandoned his two young sons when their Mother died. Any help is appreciated.

She was born in 1866 and died in 1924. Per her obituary she had three sisters surviving her at her time of death: Mrs. J. John Christian HOLBECK son of Soren Holbeck and Carolyn Toft died on Feb 12, 1973. He is buried in Union Cemetery in Flandreau. A Mrs. Dolly Keehn gave the personal information to the funeral director when John died. Who is Mrs. Keehn and what relationship is she to John, sister, family friend? What information about John Holbeck is available if any? He is stated to be a USA citizen so there must be naturalization papers. Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau handled the funeral/burial. John if our John HOLBECK had two sons in Iowa who were orphaned when their mother died in 1918 and John left in about 1925. The two boys were rearred by their maternal grandparents. Now John Holbeck's descendants want to know about him and his family. Any help is appreciate.

Other children born to them, such as fred and my grand-father, louis charles are NOT found in any south dakota records. I am looking for information on my grandfather Ole SITTERUD twin brother Jorgen Jorgensen SITTERUD. Jorgen Jorgensen SITTERUD changed his name to John DAHL and settled in South Dakota. John was born on Oct 17, 1848 in Sondre Oldalen Hedmark Norway. Ole SITTERUD came to America in 1876. I do not know if John DAHL came at that time or not. John stayed in South Dakota and my grandfather settled Utah. I have John died in Jul 1928. In the 1880 census I have found a John DAHL that matched the right age and he settled in Moody South Dakota

My father, James Boylan DAILEY was born in Flandreau January 29 (or 27?) 1920. He was the 2nd son of Robert and Lou (sp?) DAILEY. Brothers and sisters include Mary (nee Dailey) DREHER, Robert DAILEY, Jr. and Edward DAILEY. I believe my grandfather held a state office at some point. I'm interested in learning more about when my family came to South Dakota and from where as well as any historical information about the area from the time they came through the Great Depression, This is my first genealogical query. I wonder if my cousin, Matthew DAILEY (DOB~ 1958?)has made any. According to my Aunt Mary, he's become the family historian, but I'm not in touch with him. Thanks!
