Glen E. Leinbach (leinbach@frii.com) Tue Feb 6 21:21:59 2001
I am looking for information about my great-grand-father, Frank C. LEINBACH. My grandfather was Roy F. LEINBACH, born in Egan in 1881. I can't find any record of him, either. His mother was Carrie Williams LEINBACH. My father, RobRoy Manson LEINBACH (5 Feb. 1909-15 May 1981) was also born in Egan. My grandmother was Hortense Azuba Manson LEINBACH, daughter of Jay MANSON, granddaughter of Joseph MANSON, all of Moody county. In the Federal Land Records I've found a Henry A. LEINBACH and a John F. LEINBACH, both of Egan, who bought farmland adjacent to the MANSONS' farm, so it would be logical that Roy LEINBACH and Hortense MANSON were neighbors before they married. Unfortunatly I am missing any links (if there are any) between Henry A., John F., and Frank C. LEINBACH. Any info anyone has will help me solve this mystery! Thanks!

Mary Kay Ward (mksroots@juno.com) Mon May 21 16:08:23 2001
Gjertrude WANGSNESS and Erick ELLEFSON had several children born in Moody Co, SD before 1904. Were they related to the following?: Rosie ELLEFSON b 1896 in SD was the 1st wife of James Earl WARD. They were probably married about 1917 in Brookings Co, SD and lived in Brookings, Brookings Co, SD and they had 4 children: Mary Beth (or Maryalia), Cathleen (Kathleen), Jack and Dorothy WARD. They were listed on the Brookings Co, South Dakota Census 14 Jan 1920 as James Earl WARD and his wife Daisy age 23 born in SD, her father was born in PA and her mother was born in Minnesota. James Earl WARD married 2nd on 29 Jun 1933 Beulah Fay SANDERS with whom he had 8 children. Were he and his 1st wife, Rosie ELLEFSON divorced or did she die after 1924 and before 1933? I don't know her parent's names. Was Rosie (aka Daisy) ELLEFSON - WARD's father related to the ELLEFSON's who settled in and raised families Moody County or in Minnehaha Co, SD -some who still live there. And were these ELLEFSON's descended from those settled in Beaver Falls, Beaver Co, PA -some still live there and some who died there? Please contact Mary Kay Ward, 1432 Yeardley Drive, Richmond, VA 23225-2906; Ph: 804-232-9338. Thanks!

Leslie Struble (lestruble@yahoo.com) Mon Jul 2 14:10:37 2001
Am looking for Walter Smith born around 1843 in Vermont. May have been nicknamed "Dell or Delan" and was possibly a Methodist preacher. He came from Bremer County IA in 1878 on a wagon train started by Thomas FOUNTAIN after his wife died & left him with 3 sons, Ed, Harry, Charlie. Walter may have remarried a woman named Hattie SETON and possibly died shortly after. The 3 boys later lived with their grandparents John D. & Sarah Austin (Wellman) SMITH. Sarah & John were born in Vermont. When the grandparents died, the 3 boys were split up & Harry went to live with Art Whalie (Sounds like whale with long e at the end). Walter's wife was possibly a FOUNTAIN, but not sure. If any one knows about any of these families, please let me know. Am very interested to find any thing out.

I'm seeking information about my grandmother, Nettie Amelie LEE(b. 7-14-1890, d. 1924), who's buried (I think) at Midway Church Cemetery south of Colman. She married Henning WEDDELL. Nettie's parents were Nels Olson LEE(b. 12-22-1852 in Kristensund, Norway, d. 3-19-1930 in SD) and Alice THOMPSON LEE (b. 12-21-1853 in Capron, Ill., d. 4-4-1939) Family legend has it Lee may be shortened from the Norwegian LIABO or LIABOE. The THOMPSONS or the LEEs may have lived in or near Nunda, SD, also. I'm looking for information about their farms and/or homesteads (exact locations), Census records/info from 1880-1920s census, or info about my grandfather, Henning. I'm also looking for info about Nettie's brother, Gilbert (b. 1882, d. 1933, buried at Midway) who adopted my mother (Inez Lorrain Weddell Lee Anderson) and one of her sisters when their mother (Nettie) died young.

David P. Hively (dphively@aol.com) Sun Jul 22 16:19:35 2001
I have recently received a copy of page 9 of what is identified as "Centennial of Egan, Moody Co., South Dakota." One of the photographs on the page has the caption: The farm residence of S.J. Hively. I believe this is Samuel Hively, whose father was Samuel Hively, the latter of whom was a brother of my great-grandfather Amos Hively. Samuel HIVELY (the son) was born 6 Nov. 1856 in York Co., PA. He moved with his family to Iowa about 1865. Samuel HIVELY (son) married Emma Martha KILLEN, daughter of George KILLEN and Elizabeth BELL, probably in Iowa. According to a relative the couple lived in Ackley, IA before moving to "Flandreau, South Dakota 1893 to 1931." There is an unverified family record that they had two daughters and two sons, but no names or dates of birth are known. The photograph in the Egan history seems to show at least 6 people. Looking for any information on Samuel and Emma Hively (may be spelled Hiveley), including dates of death, place of burial, and obituaries, as well as any clues as to the names, spouses, and residences of their children and other descendants. Does the Egan history or another history of Moody Co. contain biographies of this family? Thank you.

David Vinge (dvinge@powersurfr.com) Sun Sep 16 16:18:16 2001
I am looking for info on my great grandparents who were from Dell Rapids. Someone said that it might be a good idea to check in at the Moody County website as Dell Rapids is very close to it. Axel VINGE emigrated to Sioux Falls, Dakotas, America in 1882. In the Spring of 1887, his brother, Peder VINGE left Trondheim to go to America and his way was paid by someone in America!. In the fall of 1887, Gyda Marie Christine OTTESEN and Rangvold OTTESEN also left Trondheim to go to Dell Rapids, Dakota, with Gyda's way being paid for in America. It is believed that Axel and Gyda were married in March 1888 and that their honeymoom was spent moving to Ashley, North Dakota. Any info or ideas on where to look for info on Axel VINGE from 1882-1887 and the marriage of Axel and Gyda VINGE in 1888 would be greatly appreciated.
