In the 1880 US census I have found Warren Young (listed as 30 years old but was really 50) with his wife, Julia (28), children: Charles (9), Addie (7) and Jennie (3) living in Flandrea. Can anyone suggest a history of Flandreau, Moody Co., Dakota Territory to help me find out what attracted them there? Also, I am trying to trace them backwards into Iowa, probably to Charles City, Floyd Co. but have run out of leads going backward. The family eventually ended up in Motley, Morrison Co., MN. Charles Youngs married Rose Johnson from WI and Jennie's married name was Cleveland. Warren had 3 children from an earlier marriage named: Homer, Clark and Edith Youngs. Thank you!

M. J. Barber (barberlighthouse2@juno.com) Sun Apr 21 19:54:03 2002
Two sets of my great-great grandparents and their families lived in Moody County in the last decade of the 19th century. They were Russel John and Nancy Ann "Annie" (CRANDALL) MAXSON, and George Washington and Loretta Olive (BROWN) (BABCOCK) HUFFMAN. There are a number of things that I would like to know about these families. BIRTHS -- The last child of Russel and "Annie" MAXSON for whom I have a birthdate and place is Ethel Grace, who was born in Nortonville, KS, in 1890. Were the other two, George and Myrtle, born in Moody County? Would it be possible to get their birth records, if so? -- The three eldest children of Darwin and Eunice (HUFFMAN) MAXSON (Ruth Loretta, Grace Estelle and Geneva Gertrude) were born in Moody County between 1896 and 1901. I am also interested in obtaining *their* birth records. SCHOOL(S) -- Several of Russel and Annie's children were of school age when they lived in Moody County. The most likely "scholars" were Edith (born 1877), Ruth (born 1879), Nathan (born 1882), Ora (born 1883), Susan (born 1885), Ethel (born 1890), George (born between 1885 and 1890? after 1890?) and Myrtle (ditto as George). What school records still exist? MARRIAGES -- Darwin Ellsworth MAXSON (Russel and Annie's eldest child) married Eunice Almira, daughter of George Washington and Loretta Olive (BROWN)(BABCOCK) HUFFMAN in Egan, SD, on 14 September 1895. Would it be possible to obtain their marriage record? -- Did any other MAXSON marriages, such as Maude's to Styles LANPHEAR or Edwin's to Grace Jesse (sic) EAGLESFIELD, occur in Moody County? If so, would records be obtainable? DEATHS -- Ruth Orcelia MAXSON died 17 November 1895 George Washington HUFFMAN died Smyth, Moody County 30 January 1898 Fitch Brown HUFFMAN died Clare Township, Moody County 4 May 1898 I am interested in newspaper obituaries and/or death certificates for all three.
