I am trying to locate the address (and the name of the current owners) of the farm my grandmother grew up in. Her name is Grace Elsie BARTON (MINOW). It is located in Colome S.D. in Tripp County. Her father homesteaded the land, I believe sometime around 1910. His name was Clarence Marion BARTON. His wifes name was Maime Bell. He also became a state senator I believe in the year 1933. My grandmother is turning 90 this August, and as a surprise for her birthday I am trying to get some current information on her childhood home, with hopes of obtaining the dinner bell she used to ring. Approx. 15 years ago she made a trip to her old home and noticed the bell still hung on the outside of the home. The current owners at the time of her visit had a last name of SHADEED. Any information you could find for me would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Victoria McIntyre, 9075 Tarmac Way, Fair Oaks, CA 95628, (916) 989-5927.

I am doing research on the KOCUM family. Joseph and his wife, Veronica, came to Gregory Co. in 1906 from Bohemia. After 1910 I cannot find them anywhere. Their daughter, Rose, marr. Jacob KRAKA in 1909 and they lived on farms near Dallas and Colome and had 2 sons, Frank and James. Jacob d. in 1920 and Rose marr. Charles URBAN. Another dau. of Joseph Kocum was Anna and she was marr. to an URBAN and lived at Colome. There was also another dau, Agnes, who I know nothing about, other than she was deceased by 1940. I would be specifically interested in any information about Joseph and Veronica KOCUM, the Krakas and Urbans. I would like obituaries and dates of death for them and names and information about any known children. Thank you!

I have not known my mother's true identity all of my life. She was married to Gordon L PERMANN and they met in Tripp, where he lived (at least during 1957-59). I know he lived there and had extended family but I know very few of my relatives. At any rate, I am trying to find out who the woman is that was known as JOANNE RASMUSSEN or perhaps JOANNE "Irish" O'CONNOR. We believe she came from Indiana, or Savannah, but don't really have any biographical information on her. A tall redhead that crashed a lot of cars. Any information would be greatly helpful and appreciated. She had three children that would all like to know who there mother really was.

I am looking for any information on the LYNN family, LIENHART family or the WEST family. Each family has an extensive history in Tripp County, predominantly in Winner. For the LYNN's, my great grandfather, J. L. (James Leslie), was a prominent resident from the late 1800's through his death in 11/2/1945. His sons were Bulen, Clifford, Lowell (Rusty), Edward, and my grandfather, Ellison David (went by John). My grandfather, Ellison David (John), was the Winner Postmaster, and had three children born in Winner, Jody, Nancy and Leigh. J. L.'s wife was Minnie Luella WEST. J.L. once bought property from Minnie Luella's parents in Winner, so I assume that her parents, David and Elisabeth, (or Mary), also lived in Winner. For the LIENHARTs, Ralph Victor, my grandfather, and his wife Jennie, (died within the last 20 years), lived in Winner until their deaths. Ralph owned a photography studio in Winner. They had three children: Ed, Virginia and my father, Kenneth.

My great uncle was found dead in a pond near Carter. I seek any info esp re his death. What I know is: ANDERSON, Albert. b Jul ca 1884-1887 in (probably) Knox Co. NE, moved to Bristow a few years later, moved to Carter, then White River, then back to Carter a few years before his death in Aug 1919. Buried Bristow NE. Believed never married, no children. Albert had many relatives in Carter at various times. Albert's brother ANDERSON, Martin T, farmed there latest 1915-1917. An older brother, ANDERSON, Charlie, was probably also there. His niece, ANDERSON, Bea was born there 13 Mar 1916. His sister, ANDERSON, Clara, homesteaded 1909, bore a child there 1913. His parents, ANDERSON, John M and Eva, lived in area for 10 years. Yet nothing more is known of Albert, or of his death. Only oral tradition.

Any help, references, obit, newspaper mention, anything appreciated.

My grandfather, William Markhardt, homesteaded in Tripp County sometime between 1909 and 1915. He was one of the lucky people to have his lottery number drawn. I know that he homesteaded near Hamill. He worked in a blacksmith shop in Hamill also. I tried to find homestead records at the court house in Winner, but had no luck. They mentioned that a fire had destroyed some records between 1909-1915. I would be very interested if you would have some information about my grandfather.

SNEATHEN, George and Mary. I am looking for information about this family. Mary Savacool, born in 1845 in Beaver County, PA, daughter of Francis and Sarah Seip Savacool, moved with her parents to Lucas County, IA about 1854. Her mother died and Francis remarried Elizabeth Holbrook. Elizabeth and Francis had three additional children, two who died very young and my Great Grandfather Benjamin Franklin Savacool. There were three other siblings from the marriage to Sara: Henry, Susan and Isaac. Henry and Isaac continued to live in Iowa after they married and family notes made by my grandmother indicate Mary married a George Sneathen and at sometime they lived in Winner, SD. I have a family photo made in the late 1800 marked as the George Sneathen family. There were only boys in the photo, no girls. The mother, although older, looks like the picture I have of Mary made several years earlier. The obituary of Benjamin Franklin Savacool lists as his only remaining sibling his sister Mary Sneathen of Winner, SD. He died around 1930. I have traced Henry and Isaac and they were indeed both dead when BF died, Henry having died only 3 or 4 years earlier. If there is anyone who knows anything about this family, I would appreciate hearing from you. I would be glad to share any information I might have pertaining to the family.

I am trying to find any information about my grandmother's eldest brother. His name was Burton Monroe BROWN. He died in Winner, SD after 1889 and before 1943. Burt was born July 17, 1862 in Oakland Twp., Venango Co., PA and married Mary L. GRATS in Dakota. The Brown family had been Methodist in PA. (1)Could a Winner Town Directory of the 1890's and later be looked up to see if an address could be found for Burton and Mary? (2)Is there a newspaper that covered the Winner area from the 1880's - 1940's that might have recorded the marriage and deaths of my family? (3)Would the Winner funeral home have records going back to the 1880's? (4)Could I have the address of the Winner Methodist Church? In which cemetery would this family have been buried and to whom would I address a letter to see about having the records checked? Are there any known descendants still living in the area?

My great-aunt Anna THOMPSON homesteaded around 1910 for a few years before returning to her home in Nebraska. She took several photographs of neighboring homesteaders, which are mounted in an album that I've had for years. The photos are captioned as follows: "MCMANIGAL Missouri," "Jim DAVIDSON from Kansas,"Wm BEHRENS Iowa," "Miss Anna RITCHEY, Iowa," "Joe LONG, Missouri," "Mr. BARNETT and sons breaking sod on my claim,", "Edwin LEGARD, South Dakota," and "Tom and Mike." Tom and Mike, whomever they may be, stand in front of a sod house with their black-and-white dog. If anyone is familiar with any of these names, please let me know. I'd be happy to scan copies. It would be interesting also to know some of the history of these people and times.

I am seeking information about my paternal grandfather's family, the Lindmarks, from Carter in Tripp County. My great-grandfather was Fred Lindmark and his wife was Hazel E. Best Lindmark. Fred was born Jan 30, 1888 in Boone, Iowa but farmed in Carter at least through the 1930's. He must have lived near his in-laws, Ida May Whitney Best and her husband, Harry Best who was originally from England. My grandfather Raymond Lindmark was born to Fred and Hazel in Carter.

I am looking for traces of the Roseboom/Rosenboom family that lived in Winner a few years back. They are related to Bert QUICK, Sr. formerly of Butte, Ne. My great aunt remembers going there to visit them. There was one member of that family still there with in the last 5-8 years. This is my only link to Bert QUICK's mother Clara A. ROSEBOOM. If anyone has any information on this family I would really appreciate the help.
