Hansen Cemetery
              Section 19  -  Daneville Township  -   Turner County  -  South Dakota

The Hansen Cemetery surely started as a rural farm cemetery, the earliest death being in 1882.  It was followed by
three Hansen children in 1884 which could have led to the name, Hansen Cemetery.  In 1911 the Maple Grove Danish
Lutheran Church was built just one mile away on donated land, and the alternative name of Maple Grove Cemetery
came into existence. 

In 1949 the church was sold and moved to Parker where it became the Grace Lutheran Church and continues to flourish
today.  The Hansen Cemetery is a very rural and quiet cemetery, nicely taken care of by Calvary Lutheran Church in
Irene and family members who continue to live in the area.

The late Inga Hansen Dickerson donated the Cemetery to Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene with 80 acres of land.

An approximate map of the cemetery showing the lots in relationship to the adjacent Turner County Roadway, 294th Street gives
the user a physical setting.   Very specific location for a given burial plot can not be found using this information source.

2.  A List of Burials

A listing of the burials at The Hansen Cemetery – Section 18 – Daneville Township – Turner County, gives the individual names in
order of lot numbers.  This listing also gives the date of birth and date of death when available.  The accuracy available with the
records in this document is acceptable for most genealogical purposes.  Special thanks are given to Sherree Schmiedt who provided
copies of the cemetery records to make this web page possible.
