was designed to assist
researchers in their quest for their ancestry in the Republic of Singapore.

General information about Indonesia
Singapore is located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula at the narrowest point of the Strait of Malacca, which is the shortest sea route between India and China. Its major natural resources are its location and its deep-water harbor.
The People
Singapore’s population is ethnically diverse. Chinese represent the majority with about three-fourths of the population. Malays are the second largest group, and Indians being the third largest.
The Languages
Singapore has four official languages; Chinese, English, Malay, and Tamil.
The Government
The government of Singapore is a parliamentary democracy.
History
In 1959, United Kingdom designated Singapore a crown colony, and Singapore became a self-governing state in the Commonwealth of Nations. It joined the Federation of Malaya, North Borneo (renamed Sabah), and Sarawak in 1963 to form Malaysia. In 1965 Singapore separated from Malaysia and became a sovereign state within the Commonwealth of Nations.
