Life was not always
easy for our mother but she showed us by her example, the solution
was hard work and a good attitude. As children we never wanted for
anything. This is amazing because there were Christmas’ where
money was tight and Mom didn’t know how she was going to put
presents under the tree, but we always got the one thing we really
wanted. We always had a turkey and all the trimmings. For many years
she was the major bread winner in our family, a big challenge for a
woman especially in the 60s and 70s. Keeping in mind she had five
children to take care of and be responsible for.
We always had new
clothes for school. There was always a chocolate bunny for Easter,
chocolates for Valentines Day and picnics and fishing in the
summertime. We made numerous trips to Barkerville and Kamloops for
the day. We made annual holiday trips to visit relatives. Mom later
took the younger children and grandchildren to Disneyland. Mom likes
to have lots of people around and see them having a good time.
Mom has always been
there for us if we needed help, wither it was taking care of
grandchildren or helping out with money. She’s willing to help
out anyone who asks and her door is always open and the coffee pot is
on. She is a good friend to all.
Our Mother is 70 this
year and still works at her janitor business. She has cut back a bit
but she still has more energy and is healthier than most people her
age. She has her little farm to take care of, usually consisting of a
cow or two, maybe a couple of pigs, always some chickens and a couple
peacocks or other exotic birds. She continues to plant and take care
of a big garden. She cans and freezes fruits and vegetables every
fall. She makes the best pies in Williams Lake! Mom has three
grandsons living with her part of the time as they go to school and
this is challenging…they are all in their teens!! Her
grandchildren love to hang out at her place. I think that pretty much
says it all. She is our Super Mother and Grandmother!
