Page 676John Andrew Ganie - born March 25, 1930, at Wilkie, Saskatchewan. My parents wer Leo and Kathrine Ganie, farmers in the Wilkie district. We moved to Tako before my school days, living south of the railroad track, now the Barth farm.
I went to Tako school to grade 6, the we moved south of Muddy Lake. One of my early highlights was going to Unity and playing hockey in their arena. I used to stay on the school rink at Tako until my toes were frozen, then I would go home and cry as they were thawing out.
In 1947, I went to work for the CNR at Greenshields, Alta. From there I went to Robb on the coalbranch south of Edson for 11 months, then moved to Kinsella until 1953. I then left the railroad and went to work for the Northwestern Utilities at Irma, Alta. On November 10, 1980, I will have worked 28 years for this company. The pay was about $320 a month at that time. Northwestern serves gas to the northern half of Alberta. In 1960, I married Betty Jones, daughter of Elmer and Violet Jones. We have three children - Gladys 18, Wanda 16, and Randy 12.
