Priests of St. Joseph's Colony"In 1903, three Oblates, Frs. August Suffa, August Kim, and Mark Kasper were assigned by Archbishop Langevin to the Parish of St. Mary's in Regina. This was te beginning of an important centre for the German Oblates. From Regina missionaries traveled to such places as Clayback, Marquis, Raymore, Quinton, Dilke, Holdfast, Liberty, Windthorst and others. Fr. William Brabender offered the first Mass at Kenaston in 1907."
"1905 marked the beginning of an important work of the German Oblates in Saskatchewan. In that year, St. Joseph's Colony was started in West Central Saskatchewan under guidance of Mr. F. J. Lange, Fr. Joseph Laufer with the encouragement of Bishop Pascal. Fr. Schweers celebrated the first Mass in the Colony on May 12, at Pascal, near Leipzig. Many of the people of this colony were Russian Germans whose ancestors had moved to Russia in the late 1700's at the request of Catharina the Great. However, in the later 1800's they felt the first movements of the Russian Revolutions and came to Canada looking for more freedom, especially that of religion. Other Germans immigrated there fromt he United States, especially from Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas. As more settlers moved into the Colony, more missions were established. The names of Frs. Forner, Brabender, Nelz, Bieler, Palm, Meyer, Schultz, Guth, Krist and Schwebius are a part of this history. By 1926, there were 12 Oblates in the Colony serving eleven parishes and about twelves missions."
