M. Alice Carey?

The Letters of M(ary) Alice Carey

September, 1899

As the reader is about to discover, Alice's sister Gertrude went off to (Normal?) School in Peru, Nebraska early in September of 1899. Alice was the eldest child of Thomas David Stout Carey and Mary Doyle, born 7 Oct 1879 (probably somewhere in Illinois), and Gertrude Maude was the next oldest child, born 7 June 1881 (possibly in Nebraska.) More information on this family may be found elsewhere on these pages.

The household contains the following people as the letters begin: Thomas and Mary Carey; Thomas' mother, Mary Elizabeth Stout Carey; and six children -- Alice, Gertrude, William Lafayette (1885), Leonard Lee (1889), Thomas David (1892), and Irene Irving (1895, my grandmother).

This is as far as the project has gotten to date. My family has more than a score of these letters, and I hope to get them all entered in the comming months. I have considered doing a limited publication of these letters. If you are interested in having a copy of the completed project on CD (there are over 15 MB of images just on these first few letters), please send an E-mail to macletters@softbear.net to be notified of cost and availability. (Family members can have them at cost.)
