Different types of tickets

Utvandrare-Kontrakt "Emigration Contract". Often a "multi-ticket" or "travel-pack" including all the trips ("Feeder" ship to England - rail in England - ship across the Atlantic - rail in the USA) and lodgings at the stops and on board. Issued by the specialist travel-agents, named "authorized emigration agent".

How did the emigrants pay for the journey ?
The costs were substantial, maybe as much as a year's earnings for many.

  Sell the farm
Go to Norway or Denmark to earn money and then continue to America
Family "chip in" to pay for one member to go ahead ("scout")
Paid by relative(s) in USA. One family member emigrated first as a "scout" and earned the money there.
Paid by agent / employer in the USA to "import" labour. This was often paid back by deduction from future salary.
