SweGGate History
Territorial Changes

Sweden in the late Middle Ages (15th century)

Some name translations:

Tyska Orden German Order
Viken (west coast) Later named Bohuslän as a province in Sweden

Notes:

Compared to Sweden of today:
All of the west coast (except for a tiny "breathing hole" around Lödöse - today near Gothenburg) and all of Skåne, Blekinge and Gotland belonged to Denmark. Finland is an independent state today. Jämtland and Härjedalen belonged to Norway.

Here you can see the origin of the name of the county "Västerbotten" (West Bothnia) which is not west in Sweden. In these days Finland was part of Sweden and had a county named "Österbotten (East Bothnia).

Note the major, historically important, cities of the age.
