STENBERG was born June 24, 1821 in Ahlby in Hulterstad parish on Öland, baptized on the same day. (C:3, p 150) "Inhyses Lars Larssons och dess hustru Brita Larsdotters son. :Wittnen ... Olof Danielsson i Ahlby, Drängen Lars Pehrsson i ..restad; Hustru Maria Larsdotter i Ahlby, pigan Catharina Stoll? i Prestgd. Modren är 24 år." Prestgd =prästgården=the parsonage) He moves to Stenåsa parish. In 1851/60- he is listed as afsk marinsoldat (former marine soldier) (AI:6, p 114) He marries Karolina Olsdotter from the neighbour parish Mörbylånga. She moves in with him on Feb 24, 1855. They have children, Gustaf, July 21, 1857, August, Oct 10, 1859, Helena Sofia, March 27, 1862 and Peter Olof, Oct 7, 1865, all born in Stenåsa parish. From 1884 he is listed as arbetare (labourer). Karolina dies on Jan 27, 1883. On March 28, 1884 Daniel marries again, now to Sara Stina Petersdotter, 12 years his junior from his home parish Hulterstad. She moves in with him 2 weeks later on April 10. |

She has two still-born children. Maria Christina was born on Oct 26, 1881 in Segerstad. Johan August registers out for America from Seby, Segerstad parish, inhyses page, on Jan 1, 1884, leaving his wife and daughter behind. M C dies on Sept 7, 1886 while the husband is in the USA. Johan August returns in 1891. In the period 1880-99 there is a note se kyrkorådets protokoller (see church council meeting minutes) so something has happened. He has no registration of attendance from 1896 on. |

Conclusion: Identical (Hae) marinsoldat literally translates to marine soldier but in fact this is a soldier aboard a ship . nothing like the US or British Marines. |
