SweGGate -
About this Portal
Current
work ..
- I'm constantly looking for new,
valuable sources. Many are in Swedish but I'm asking webmasters to translate and also assist in
translating other sites.
- Production of instructions in English how
to use some Swedish-speaking sites (Searches and
request input)
- Continue updating this web
portal
- Fredrik's
closest helper :-)
Aims in general
- Become the main gate into Sweden for
genealogical researchers outside Sweden.
- Provide logical overview and easy access to facts,
guides and data sources.
- Resource for Swedish genealogists
researching emigrant descendants.
Aims in detail
- Offer an overview of
Swedish genealogical sources.
- To create roads into
Swedish genealogical sources to assist in
finding the info you want
- To pave the way for
researchers, especially those who do not have the opportunity
to come to Sweden and those who do not read Swedish.
- This web portal is limited to general
topics. At start-up there is much detail info but as Roads to
different parts of Sweden are created (County/Province sites)
specific info will be moved there and linked from here.
Policies
WorldGenWeb general policy
Additional policies for this org
and the SweGGate site:
- SweGGate is a non-profitable,
non-commercial organization. I will always try to
find and link to other non-profitable sources. Only if such
sources are not available I will link to others.
- Courtesy is a
virtue. When you receive help - remember to say
"thanks" to the one who helped you and return the
favour to that or another fellow researcher.
- The common language is English. Some parts are
available in Swedish as well.
- Everything on this site is free of charge.
Copyright
- ALL material on this
site is copyright SweGGate, unless otherwise stated.
You MAY
-- Use and keep copies of any material for personal,
non-commercial use.
You MAY NOT
-- Publish
any parts of this site in any form without written permission from me but don't hesitate to ask !
- Material in other
sites that I link to may be subject to copyright by
others but not to SweGGate.
Example: You like
a topic article on this site. It is OK to copy that and put it in
your private library or Family Book provided that you disclose your source as
"Copyright Dr Fredrik Haeffner, SweGGate".
If you want to publish that book in print, on a CD or on the w w web you
need permission to include that article. In any quote the source must be stated.
I work without compensation for you. The only return
is that you give credit where credit is due.
How to ask questions with maximum chance to get a
good reply
- Sort out your thoughts.
- Specify what you want to know.
- Present known facts in tabular
form in a logical order (by relation, time etc).
- Keep text short and facts
abundant.
- NOTE: I try to
give guidance on how to find data - but I don't do the
research for you (that would spoil the fun for you).
- Guide to mailing lists
