James M. Hammock, (Born ca 1828, place unknown) was in Jones Co. GA, before moving to Houston (Now Peach) Co., GA married Martha Ann Emerson Jan 13, 1848, Jones Co., GA Moved to upper 5th district of Houston early 1850s. Apparently died in Civil War 1863, place of death/burial unknown. Martha's obit. states that she was buried at Sardis Church, Bibb Co., GA which is located very near her land. Especially looking for their children John Lewis Hammock b 1849 who apparently moved to TX and married Pauline Maywald, Sarah Hammock b ca1851 and Rebecca Hammock b ca 1853. Our Rebecca Hammack, daughter of Benedict and Sally Hammack, married Joel Culpepper 26 August 1819 in Jones County, GA. Rebecca's obituary in the Bethany Baptist Church records (Harris County, Ga.) mention that her membership to that church was transferred from the Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Jones County, GA. Rebecca and Joel moved after 1830 to the part of Troup County, that is now in Harris County. They had two sons, James M. and Mariner, and one daughter. In the 1830 census Joel and Rebecca are still in Jones County, living next door to Benedict Hammack, age over 45, wife, 26-45, and 1 female, age 16-26. Joel is shown to be age 30-40, Rebecca, age 20-30, James M., age 5-10, Mariner, age under 5, and a female, age 50-60, supposedly Joel's widowed mother. Neighbors in this census are John Ursery, Lewis Hammack and John P. Hammack. Also several Culpeppers in those census years. After Joel and Rebecca moved to Harris County, they became very active in the Bethany Baptist Church, now in Pine Mountain, Ga. Several years ago the church celebrated its 150th Anniversary, and Joel was honored since he had donated the land for that church.

I am trying to connect MARTHA A. M. HAMM-CK up with her family and my line. She married SIMON PETER SMITH 11 Sept 1849 in Warren Co, Va. She was his 1st wife. Their children were (1) WALTER N born Sept 1850 ?? New Market, Va (2)ANTHANEL L. born ca 1852 ??New Market, Va, (3) CORNELIUS S. born ca 1854 ?? New Market,Va, (4) MARTHA A. E. born ca 1856 ?? New Market, Va, (5) EMMA J. born ca 1858 ?? New Market, Va. All indications are that MARTHA A. M. died before 1860. I would really like to know who her folks were and on back through the line if possible. MARTHA and SIMON are my 2nd great grandparents and my line goes down through WALTER who married MARY JANE BREEDLOVE on 22 March 1877 in Warren Co, Va. Also if there is any SMITH's connected to these lines and SIMON PETER SMITH's name rings a bell please let me hear from you.
