- January 1863 - February 1864
- Attached to post of Nashville, Tenn, Department of the Cumberland
- January 26 - mustered in at Nashville
- October 5, 1863 - regiment was part of a force under Brig. Gen. William T. Ward to
reinforce the garrison at Murfreesboro
- December, 1863 - recalled to Nashville to join the force under Brig. Gen. William Sooy
Smith for an invasion into West Tennessee
- Company C detached as escort for Major Gen. Henry W. Slocum
February - April 1864
- 3rd Brigade, Cavalry Division, 16th Army Corps, Department of the Tennessee
- Feb. 11, 1864 - placed in 3rd Brigade under Col. LaFayette McCrillis marching toward
Meridien, Mississippi
- Feb. 22, 1864 - conflict at Okalona, Mississippi with Forrest's Confederate forces
April - June 1864
- 1st Brigade, 4th Division, Cavalry Corps, Army of the Cumberland
- April 30, 1864 - placed under Brig. Gen. Alvan C. Gillem's command, doing post duty
at Nashville and along Nashville & Decatur RR
June - October 1864
- District of Nashville & North Alabama, Department of the Cumberland
- June 19 - moved to Decatur, and under Brig. Gen. R. S. Granger
- July 10 - under command of Brig. Gen. Lovell H. Rousseau, to destroy RR
- July 30 - participating in McCook's Raid near Newnan, GA, suffered heavy losses
- August 5 - ordered back to Marietta, GA where the regiment turned over its horses and
equipment to the 3rd Cavalry Division, then went by rail to Decatur
- Lt. Col. Jacob Thornburgh, in command of the brigade afterward
November 1864 - February 1865
- 1st Brigade, 7th Division, Cavalry Corps, Military Division Mississippi
- Nov. 17, 1864 - assigned to the new 7th Cavalry Division, under Maj. Gen. James H. Wilson
- Nov. 26 - marched toward Nashville
- Dec 15-16 - Battle of Nashville
- Feb. 3, 1865 - 7th Division ordered to New Orleans, to report to Maj. Gen. E.R.S. Canby
March - April 1865
- 2nd Brigade, 4th Division, Cavalry Corps, Military Division West Mississippi
- March 17 - April 12, 1865 - Mobile, Alabama campaign
- March 30/31 - 4th split into detachments under Brig. Gen. James C. Veatch, and under
Maj. Meshack Stephens
- April 14 - reported to Maj. Gen. R.S. Canby
May - July 1865
- 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, West Mississippi
- May 2, at Mobile, Brigade commanded by Brig. Gen. J. Bailey
- May 8-22 - expedition from Spring Hill, AL to Baton Rouge, LA
- May 27-June 13 - regiment returns to Nashville
