NOTE: Naturalization Laws...During the years 1907-1922, a woman who
married a foreigner lost her US Citizenship and took the nationality of her
husband. She would have to re-apply to regain her US Citizenship. If
she divorced, she had to re-apply for citizenship. It was after 1922 that
the woman did not lose her citizenship if marrying a
non-American. Between 1804-1906 a
widow became a citizen if her husband had filed his declaration of intentions
but had died before he became a naturalized citizen. She only needed to
take an oath of allegiance. After 1906 she had to comply with the other
provisions, except for filing a declaration.

NATIVE
AMERICAN RECORDS Native Americans fell into 2
categories: (1) those who remained on reservations and (2) those who
mingled into non-Indian societies.
Indian names changed when married to a white
man. Records fell into two categories, (1) The Five Civilized Tribes and
tribes who were made wards of the government. The Five Tribes were:
Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole. Records can be found at
the National Archives in Ft. Worth, Texas, The Oklahoma Historical
Society. These include tribal census rolls, enrollment cards, allotment
and payroll records, and tribal citizenship, service records that include those
who served in the American Revolution and Civil War to current
date. The white people who married
Indians were not listed on the US Census records, if the marriage took place in
Oklahoma, Arkansas or Missouri before 1869. In 1906, all Indians had to
fill out a claim including children, parents, grandparents, birth, death,
etc. The National Archives in Washington, D.C. has the applications to the
Court of Claims.
