January 26, 1984 'Jelly' Idles 80,Dies After Being
Burned The proprietor of a general store and Gulf Service Station in
Briceville that was one of the community's gathering places,Henry Louis (Jelly)
Idles,80,died last Thursday at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. He had been at
the hospital since he was severely burned the day after Christmas as he tried to
ignite a coal stove at the store.He was rushed to the burn unit at the
Chattanooga,hospital shortly after receiving preliminary treatment at Oak Ridge
Hospital.The well-known businessman had operated the store on State Highway 116
since 1947. His wife,Mrs.Pauline Cox Idles,said Idles had been running the
market on an increasingly smaller scale and had planned to retire on Dec.31.
Idles enjoyed mixing with the public at his store,his wife continued.He was a
coal miner until he was injured in an accident in 1941.Idles parents came to
this area from Union County. Besides his wife,Idles is survived by a son,Henry
L.Idles of Calumet,IL.,two daughters, Mrs.Helen Cantini of Closplint,Ky.,and
Betsy Idles of Erwin,four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral
services were held Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Briceville with the
Revs.Troy Chirstopher and Lonnie Dison officiating.Burial was in Oak Grove
Cemetery.
February 7,1963 Services For Mrs.Irick Held Tuesday Funeral
services for Mrs.Sarah Jane Irick,77 of Lake City,of Lake City were held Tuesday
at 2p.m.at Clear Branch Baptist Church with the Rev.P.T.Lindsay and the Rev.H.L.
Hutchins officiating.Burial was in Leach cemetery. Mrs.Irick died Sunday at her
home.Survivors include three sons,Bill Hatmaker,Ohio,Tom Hatmaker,Kentucky, John
Hatmaker.South Carolina,three daughters,Mrs.May Hatmaker,California,Mrs.Lillie
Fry,Indiana,Mrs.Evelyn Sharp, Lake City,sister,Mrs.Mart
Anderson.

Isabell, Leonard--age 71 of Rt 2 Lake City passed away early Friday morning.
Member of New Hope Baptist Church. Retired Coal miner. Survivors; wife Mrs. Anna
Lee Isabell Lake City sons; C.L. Isabell, Jacksboro Lonnie and Condy Isabell
both of Lake City daughters Mrs. Bonnie Smith with whom she made her home Mrs.
Louise Melton both of Lake City Mrs. Pearl Daughterty Mrs. Marie Tackett Mrs.
Stella Loyd all of Caryville Mrs. Charlotte Phillips Mrs. Thelma Kimberland both
of Lafollette Mrs. Christine Cross of Jacksboro Mrs. Mary Johnson of Knoxville
53 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren. Funeral Services 2 p.m. Sunday Beech
Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Virgle Tackett, Rev William Dawson officiating.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery. The body of Leonard Isabell will be returned
to his home of his daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Smith, 2 p.m. Saturday, where friends
may call at their convience. Martin Funeral Home Lake City in Charge.

Mrs. Myrtle Mae Fritts Isabell, 64, wife of Leonard Isabell of Fourth St,
Lake City died last Thursday in Lake City Hospital. She leaves 90 survivors. She
had suffered a heart attack the Sunday before her death. Mrs. Isabell was a
native of Anderson County having lived in the Lake City area all her life. Her
husband is a retired coal miner. She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves three sons; C.L. Isabell of Caryville, Lonnie
and Condy Isabell, both of Lake City; nine daughters, Mrs. Mary Johnson of
Knoxville, Miss Stella Isabell and Mrs. Bonnie Smith both og Lake City, Mrs
Pearl Daughterty, Mrs. Marie Tackett, Mrs.Christine Stepp, Mrs Louise Melton,
Miss Charlotte Isabell all of Caryville, and Mrs. Thelma Kimberlin of La
Follette. Other survivors are one sister Mrs. Leona Carroll of Caryville; one
brother James L. Fritts of Lake City; 29 grandchildren; five great
grandchildren; 20 step-grand children; 21 step-great grandchildren. Services
were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Beech Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth
Seeber and the Rev. Richard Phillips officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove
Cemetery.
