History of Avery Trace Chapter, NSDAR

In the spring of 2004, the DAR Spirit motivated a group of twenty-six women to form a new chapter, much as our forefathers in 1776 were motivated to form a new government.  Avery Trace Chapter was organized.  The name originates with a route carved out of the wilderness by Revolutionary War veteran, Peter Avery, Sr.  The route passed through northern Roane County, Tennessee, beginning near Clinch Mountain.  On July 5, 2004, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution approved Avery Trace Chapter, NSDAR, at Continental Congress in Washington, DC.
