Cemetery Atlases

Chapter members with tombstone

The Avery Trace Chapter, NSDAR has chosen to Promote Historic Preservation locally through an effort designed to capture marker images of local cemetery resting places using digital technology.  Once captured, these images can be stored for retrieval on mediums that preserve the images at present day quality for hundreds of years past the physical life of the actual markers.  The benefit to those interested in the genealogical information contained in these images is immense considering the capability to transmit a digital image anywhere in the world by the mere push of a button.

The process of gathering the images involves a surveying of the cemetery into small, manageable sections to insure accuracy of the information being gathered; and thereby results in a typical map grid for the cemetery.  Each marker can then be identified as being located within its small map grid area.  Providing visitors to a cemetery with the alphabetical listing of markers and with the actual location of the marker on the map grid is a by-product of this preservation effort.  Such lists and associated map grids, when available, are of obvious great value to the genealogist or descendant on a search mission.

It is the hope of the Avery Trace Chapter, NSDAR that this information may help those in search of their past while Preserving History for those who follow.
