1795 -- Settlement began in Campbell County
The settlement of Campbell County was begun some time
not far from 1795, and for several years it was restricted mainly to that
portion to the east of the mountains, all of which was included in Henderson
County’s grant (see sketches of Claiborne and Hawkins Counties).
1806 -- Campbell County was formed from Anderson
and Claiborne County, the 26th county
1852 -- Campbell County had an earthquake April 29,
1852
1867 -- Yellow Fever Epidemic
1873 -- Yellow Fever Epidemic
1884 -- Fire destroyed the courthouse at
Jacksboro
1884 -- Jellico's
First Baptist Church
1885 -- Jellico was first
Incorporated
1897 -- The town of LaFollette was organized, and
a railroad link to the Southern Railway was established.
1898 -- Grace Moore is born
1904 -- Newmarket

1907 -- There was a boxcar of TNT exploded at
Jellico
1907 -- The First General
Assembly was held at the Jellico Creek Church in Whitley County
Kentucky
1919 -- The start of Dixie
Highway
1921 -- A building site was purchased in Jellico,
Tennessee on Florence Avenue to build a Tabernacle
1926 -- The Iron Furnace
closed
1930-31 -- There was an outbreak of
Meningitis
1933 -- Campbell County had a
tornado
1936 -- There was an outbreak of
Meningitis
1944 -- Troop Train

1945 -- We had Diphtheria
1948 -- Lafollette had an earthquake on February
10, 1948
1950 -- Lafollette had a flood on May 11, 1950 1968
-- Caryville was Incorporated
1968 -- Jacksboro was Incorporated
There were several Cholera Epidemics in the 1800's
There were a lot of floods in the 1800's on the
Cumberland River
There was a drought in 1877-88 also 1887 and 1894-96
again in 1913-14
1896 there was a Typhoid Fever Epidemic in Scott
Co.
In 1916 there was a Polio Epidemic (state-wide) again
in 1936 and 1945-46
In the fall of 1918 there was a Flu Epidemic again in
1928
In 1924 there was a Thphoid Epidemic at Lincoln
Memorial University
In March 1924 there was a Small Pox Epidemic in
Anderson Co.
On June 29, 1928 Lake City, Oliver Springs and
Knoxville flooded.
1941 and 1944 there was a Measles Epidemic
In Knoxville in 1936-37 they had the "Black Death"
Epidemic
In 1941 and 1943 the whooping cough was
going around
