Former Lake City Physician Dies
A physician who practiced in Lake City for many years during
the early years during the early 1920's has passed away in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Dr. W.B. Campbell died Sunday, April 14, unexpectedly of a heart attack at a
neighbors home in Cleveland. Dr. Campbell will be remembered by many of the
older residents of Lake City. He was a personal friend and former schoolmate of
Dr. J.M. Cox. Dr. and Mrs. Cox were visiting him at the time of his death. He is
survived by his wife Mrs. Lucille Hillard Campbell of Cleveland one son Carl a
student at U.T. two grand children and three great grand children. Services and
burial were held Monday at 4 p.m. in Cleveland.

Marjorie Stonecipher-Cantrell, age 70, of Cincinnati, Ohio,
passed away Monday, April 18, 1983 at Hospice of the Bethesda Hospital,
Cincinnati. She was a former resident of Jellico and lived in Florida 8
years after leaving Jellico. She had lived in Cincinnati for the past 4
years. Survivors: daughters, Mable Stonecipher, Lexington, Ky.,
Virginia Saikaly and Joan Miracle, both of Cincinnati; 4 grandchildren;
sister, Mildred Mynatt, Bristol, Tenn.; brother M.A. Wheeler Jr.,
Farmersville, La. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, Cox
& Son Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Richard Allison and Rev. Russell Bridges
officiating. Burial in Jellico Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m.
Wednesday at Cox & Son Funeral Home.

Andy D Carroll, 82 died suddenly Sunday at his home in
Briceville. Survivors are one sister Mrs. Sarah Carroll of Clinchmore. Four step
sons Albert Vowell of Lake City Amos Vowell of Briceville Laurence Vowell of
California Bill Vowell of New York two step daughters Mrs. Cora Mathis of
Harriman Mrs. Carrie Allen of California four grand children. Services Tuesday
at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Briceville. Rev. Ben Baird officiating
Internment in Leach Cemetery with Martins in Lake City in charge.

James Louis Claiborne was born May 22, 1926, died March 1, 1933.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Claiborne. While returning home from Mr.
Childress', where he had been sent by his parents, his life was quickly
snuffed out by a passing motorist. His last words to his little sister were to
said to be "Tootsie, I'm dying. Tell mama goodbye." He is mourned by his
parents, two sisters and two brothers, and a host of schoolmates and
friends.

Edward Cline, 80, of LaFollette, died Thursday, Feb. 8, at his
home. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents,
William Thomas and Rose Bayless Cline; brother James Cline; sister Dovie Cline;
step-son Michael Wayne Longmire. He is survived by wife Alice Faye Chatman Cline
of LaFollette; step-children Terry Longmire of Kan., Kathy Cumming of Fla.,
and Jeff and James Longmire of LaFollette; eight step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 12, after visitation in the Liberty Church
Cemetery with Rev. James Phillips officiating. Schubert Funeral Home of Wartburg
was in charge of arrangements.

John L. Collins, age 79 of Lafollette passed away Friday December
22, 2000, in Fairfield, Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II
and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Collins was born in Pioneer, Tennessee. He was
preceded in death by his wife Thelma Mae Roberts Collins and daughters Portia
Ludwick and Andrea Cassday. Survivors, sons- Joh Collins, Florence, Ky and
Charles Collins of Covington, Ky., daughter, Brenda Davis of Hamilton, Ohio 16
grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren brothers, Alonzo Collins, Conn, Texas,
Charles Collins, Wylie, Texas and Lawton Collins of St. Petersburg, Fl. Funeral
service 1 o'clock p.m. Thurday 28 December, 2000 at Cross Chapel, Rev. Don

James Harvey Cooper, - age 75, of Clinton, Tenn., died Friday at
Methodist Medical Center. Born August 14, 1921 in Campbell County, Tenn.
Retired from City of Clinton. He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist
Church. He also was a member of Alpha Lodge No. 376 in Clinton, Tenn. He was in
the U.S. Army with a distinguished flying cross, 4 bronze stars on his air
medal, 2 commendation medals. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.
Harvey and Nadine Cooper. Survivors include his wife, Elizbeth Cooper; four
sons, James Jr. and Jean Cooper of San Antonio, Texas, David William and Cindi
Cooper of San Antonio, Texas, Jay Darrell and Suzie Cooper of San Antonio,
Texas; two stepchildren; son, Craig Caldwell of Atlanta, Ga.;
daughter, Hope and Dan McCoig of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; one sister,
Peggy Freyre of Roswell, Ga.; four grandchildren, Eric, Johnny, Paul,
and Zackery; step-grandchildren, Corey, Dustin, Jeoffrey, and Melissa; one
great-grandchild; mother-in-law, Louise Freeman of Clinton, Tenn.; and
several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-30-8 p.m. Sunday, April
13, 1997, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton. Funeral services will be
conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 1997, at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home
Chapel, Clinton, Tenn. with the Rev. Steve Evans officiating. Burial 10

Charles E Cox, Retired Navy Chief Chief Hospital Corpsman
Charles E. Cox, USN (ret.), 48, of 56 Levin St. died today at the Bethesda,
Md.,Naval Hospital after a long illness. He was born Aug. 20, 1908, Jacksboro,
Tenn., and was a veteran of World War II and the War. Chief Cox was not married
and leaves no immediate family. Services will be conducted here at the Hambly
Funeral Home 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Canon Lockett Ford Ballard, rector of
Trinity Church. Burial will be in the Island Cemetery. Newport Daily

Aug.11,1983 A resident of the Lake City area most of his
life,Matthew Cox,78,died Saturday night at the Oak Ridge Hospital. A retired
coal miner who lived in the Cobb Hollow area off of Norris Freeway,Cox had been
disabled many years. He was a member of Longfield Baptist Church and United Mine
Workers of America.Cox is survived by hiw wife, Monna Hatmaker Cox,three
sons,William Floyd Cox of Orlando,Fla.,James C.Cox of Hammonds,Ind.and Robert
L.Cox of Powell,two daughters,Mrs.Zelma Huckaby of Whiting,Ind.,and
Mrs.Louise(Pauline)Idles of Briceville, 16 grandchildren, 13
great-grandchildren,brother,Mack Cox of Lake City,and a sister,Mrs.Ruth Ella
Vann of Chevy Chase,Md. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Longfield
Baptist Church with the Revs.Mack Smith,Larry Watts and Paul Wilson
officiating.Burial was in Oak Grove.

Funeral services were held Saturday for Siler Cross, 49, a
widely known Caryville businessman who died early Thursday at the Lafollette
Community Hospital. Mr. Cross was known by many Lake Citians. He was past master
and treasurer of Caryville Lodge # 665 F&AM, a member of Caryville OES
Chapter # 415, a charter member of the thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Masons
in Knoxville, a member of Kerbela Temple of Shriners and a member of the
Campbell County Shrine. He was an active member of the Caryville Baptist
Church. He was owner of the Cross and Son drug store there. Survivors
include his wife, Mrs. Fannalea Newport Cross, a daughter Mrs. Hobart Bartley,
Jr. and a sister Mrs. W.E. Disney of Caryville.

June 1971 Ex-Grocer Crowley,80,Is Dead Winfield
F.Crowley,80,a retired grocer,died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Ridge Hospital
after a long illness. He operated Crowley's Grocery in front of his home on
Foley Hill Rd.on Clinton Rt.3 for about 10 years until retiring in
1961.Earlier he mined coal for more than 30 years.He was a member of Jarnigan's
Chapel Baptist Church. The body is at Martin Funeral Home in Clinton.The family
will receive friends Thursday(tonight).Services are to be at 2p.m.Friday night
at Jarnigan's Chapel Church with the Rev.R.L.Gibson and the Rev.Arless Lamarr
officiating. Burial is to be in the church cemetery.He leaves his wife,the
former,Litha Burress,three daughters,Mrs.Letha Bunch of Clinton Rt.2,Mrs.Lillian
Phillips of Beech Fork,and Mrs.Virgie Helen Newport of Xenia,O.three sons,Ondes
Crowley of Clinton Rt.3, Estel Crowley of Lexington,Ky.,and Audie of
Corbin,Ky.,42 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
