December 8, 1961
China Williams Hackler, -Age 82 was born 1879, Sept. 13 at Lot,
Kentucky. Wife of the late Lee Hackler. Professed a hope in Christ
at an early age. She departed this life Friday, Dec. 8, 1961. The
mother of 11 children. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Kat
Proffitt of Powell, Tenn., Mrs. Cinda Lay and Leoma Hackler of Jellico.
Five sons, Martin, Ray, Tobe and Charles of Jellico and Ova of Toledo,
Ohio. 34 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren she also leaves a host
of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing. Our loss is her
eternal gain.

Flora Mae Jeffers Harness, -Born March 4, 1921, deceased this
life October 14, 1973 at the age of 52 years, 7 months and 12 days. She
was the daughter of the late Oscar and Lucinda Harness Jeffers. She
professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Buffalo Baptist Church
where she remained a member until death. She was united in marriage to
Jake Harness, July 11, 1936, and to this union were born 7 children. One
preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her absence, husband Jake
Harness, Winona, Tenn.; son Ronnie Harness, Dalton, Ga.; 5 daughters, Trucilla
and Joyce Harness, Winona, Tenn.; Izella Newport, Helenwood, Tenn.; Fayrene
Lowe, Clinton, Tenn.; Geraldine Crabtree, Elk Valley, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren;
one great grandchild; 4 brothers, Floyd Jeffers, Winona, Tenn.; Marley Jeffers,
Huntsville, Tenn.; Loy Jeffers, Dayton, O.; L. D. Jeffers, Helenwood, Tenn.; one
sister Flossie Marcum, Helenwood, Tenn.; one half sister Artincy Harness,
Mountain View, Tenn., and a host of relatives and friends. She was a
devoted wife and mother and was loved by all who knew her. We feel our
loss is her eternal gain in glory. Blessed are the dead who die in the
Lord.

LaFollette, passed away Thursday, April 10, at the LaFollette Medical Center.
She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Preceded in death by
husband, J.M. Hatfield; and son, James Heatherly. Survivors: sons and
daughters-in-law, Bill and Anna Heatherly, Thurman and Joyce Heatherly, all
of LaFollette; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy Heatherly, Margaret and
Arlis Meadows, Mary and Earl Parker, and Carol and Lincoln White, all of
LaFollette; stepson and wife, Joy and Jeanie Hatfield, LaFollette;

Fred Hatmaker, age 99 of Caryville died Sept. 25 at the Lake City
Health Care Center. He was born Sept. 22, 1905 in the Murrayville Community of
Campbell County to the late Eligah and Parlie Lindsay Hatmaker. He was of the
Baptist faith. He was the owner of Lake City Auto Parts, known locally as
Hatmaker's Junkyard for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Lucille Sellers Hatmaker. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law,
Ottis Hatmaker and Janet of Noblesville, IN and Harold Hatmaker and Carol of
Lake City; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Cox and Bruce of Caryville;
grandchildren, Glenn Hatmaker and wife, Betty of Indianapolis, IN, David
Hatmaker and wife, Chalyn of Anderson, IN, Kathryn Gipson and husband, Brad of
Zionsville, IN, Wendi Arnold and husband, Gary of Knoxville, Kevin Blue of Lake
City; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Koty, D.J. and Brendon Hatmaker, David,

& Knoxville, passed away Friday, August 13, 2004. Former educator (too
confining); banker (problems with FDIC); and businessman (poor health). Loved
controversy, politics, and poker. A lifelong Democrat. Publicly, rascal and
curmudgeon; privately, caring, compassionate, and charitable. Natural comedian,
master storyteller (many not true - all embellished). A common person who became
comfortable with the powerful, but remained a champion of the people - a voice
for those who were otherwise unheard. Preceded in death by parents, Glenn &
Hester Hatmaker. Survivors: Devoted wife Doris; sons; Phillip and Wes (wife
Thalia); grandchildren Ben and Abigail (who don't know what they missed);
sisters Margaret Ayers and Betty Taylor; brothers A. J. and Mike Hatmaker;

Aug 4,1983 Briceville Cancer Patient,12,Dies After a long
bout with leukemia,Nathaniel(Nate)Paul Hatmaker,12,of Briceville,died Tuesday
morning at East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville.He was the subject of
some publicity earlier this spring when he went to Greece to seek a
controversial serum treatment for the disease from Dr.Hariton Alivizatos in
Athens. At a cost of several thousand dallars,the boy and his
mother,Mrs.Freddie(Ginger)Hatmaker,and a friend went to Greece where Nate
underwent a series of injections.The serum reputedly would kill all cancerous
cell within six months. The family borrowed large sum in order to pay for the
trip and treatment.The Nathaniel Hatmaker Fund at Third National Bank in Lake
City continues to exist to help the family defray the cost.Nate had been sick
since December 1981. A few weeks after his return from Greece in May,He suffered
a relapse and was admitted to Children's Hospital. The boy was born in
Toledo,Ohio but had lived in Briceville most of his life.He was a Baptist and
had attended Briceville Elementary School.Nate had been interested in
boxing,often running up to three miles a day for his training. After he became
ill,his parents used his interest in boxing as a strategy to help him
psychologically. "We told him he was fighting a much bigger opponet
now"Mrs.Hatmaker recalled,A few days ago,Nate simple said he was"tired"she
continued.Besides his parents,the youth is survived by his grandparents,Ernest
Hatmaker of Clinton, Mrs.Oma Brooks of Valparaiso,Ind.and Mrs.Edra Wilson of
Briceville. Funeral services are to be held Friday at 2p.m.at Cox Funeral
Home in Lake City with the Rev.Nickey Barden officiating. Burial is to be in
Circle Cemetery.The family will receive friends Thursday night(tonight) at the
funeral home.
Aug.20,1970 Hatmaker ill for years dies,in Lafollette Silas
H.(Slim) Hatmaker,70,former operator of Slim's Place in North Lake City,died
last Thursday afternoon in Lafollette Community hospital after a heart attack.He
operated Slim's Place until he suffered a stoke about a year ago and had to
retire.He continued to reside in Lake City until about two weeks ago when he was
taken to Eastridge Nursing Home in Lafollette.He was a member of the Red
Men.Services were held at 2p.m at the Willow Brook Baptist with the Rev.John
Lett and the Rev.Curtis Tindell officiating.Burial was in Island Ford Cemetery.
He leaves a daughter,Mrs.Helen Mowery of Lake City,a brother,William Hatmaker of
Youngstown,Ohio and four grandchildren.
Jan.26,1984 Fratervillian Dies At Hospital A laundry worker
in Oak Ridge during the 1940's,Mrs.Mattie Mae Hawkins,88,of Lake City, died
Friday at Lake City Hospital.Mrs.Hawkins was a native of the Lake City area and
was a member of Fraterville Baptist Church.Her husband John Hawkins,died in
1960.Mrs.Hawkins enjoyed quilts and gardening when she was able.She is survived
by three sons,John Hawkins Jr. of Lake City,Leon Hawkins of Clinton and Kenneth
Hawkins of Mentor,Ohio.,two daughters, Pauline Hall of of Coneaut,Ohio.,and
Mildred Hatmaker of Lake City,14 grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren.Funeral services were held Sunday at the First Baptist
Church of Fraterville with the Revs.Bill Lamb and Bobby Tadlock
officiating.Burial was in Leach Cemetery.

Rev. Herbert W. Heatherly, - age 74, of Jefferson City, went to
be with the Lord, Sunday, September 28, 2003, at East Tennessee Baptist
Hospital. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church in Grainger County. Rev.
Heatherly was a Baptist Minister and has pastored churches in Anderson,
Grainger, Greene, Jefferson, Knox, and Roane Counties. Preceded in death by
parents, Virgil O. and Mary E. Heatherly of Lake City, Tenn. Survived by wife of
57 years, Avenell Foust Heatherly of Jefferson City daughters and sons-in-law,
Mary and Jimmy Dale Patterson of Dandridge, Maxine and Doug Quarles of Jefferson
City, Chris and Omar McCarty of Strawberry Plains son and daughter-in-law, Sammy
and Linda Heatherly of Rutledge grandchildren, Lydia and Braum Denton, Carri
Quarles, Bradley and Megan McCarty, Lisa Lakins great-grandson, Sammy Chapman

1997, at Baptist Hospital after a short illness. She was born to Alec and
Susan Gray Heatherly on October 3, 1912, in Campbell County. She is

Saturday, March 18, 2000 at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a retired teacher
and did bookkeeping for Gulf Oil. Long time member of the LaFollette First
Baptist Church and Bethany Sunday school class, she attended Carson-Newman
College and the University of Tennessee. Preceded in death by parents, Andrew J.
and Zora Roach Heatherly; sister, Aileen Heatherly; brother, Eugene Heatherly
and special aunt, Cleo R. Perkins. Survivors: sister and brother in law,
Wanda H. and Joe Carden of LaFollette; brother and sister in law, Hugh W. and
Mickey Heatherly of Sunnyvale, Calif.; sister in law, Novella S. Heatherly of
Knoxville; beloved nieces, Jeanne H. Wilson, of Louisville, KY.,

Louis Franklin Heatherly, - age 66, of Knoxville, passed away
March 29, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was of the Baptist faith. An
Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he retired after 30 years of service with
the telephone company. Preceded in death by: parents, William and Naomi
Heatherly; and brother, Burness Heatherly. Survived by: son and daughter-in-law,
Louis Stephen and Rose Heatherly; daughters, Kimberlee Diane and Dawn LaKay
Heatherly; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Orville of
Atlanta, and Wayne of Knoxville; sisters, Pauline Hughes and Carolyn Coley, both

Attorney Hill. Williamsburg, Ky., June 4.—R. D. Hill, United
States district attorney for the western district of Kentucky, died at his home
here. Mr. Hill was born in Campbell county, Tenn., 57 years ago, and was
admitted to the bar in 1871. He had served two terms as district attorney and
was reap- pointed a few months ago. He leaves surviving his wife and two

Margaret Garrett Pistello Holt, age 83 of LaFollette died Sept.
12 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was a member of the
Fincastle Methodist Church. She gave her energies to her family, home maker,
wife and mother. Preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Pistello and Emerson
Holt; sons, Freddie and Stephen Pistello; parents, Lewis and Ruby Stiller
Garrett; sisters, Jean Reagan, Dorothy Brock and Mildred Trobaugh. She is
survived by her son and daughter- in- law, Michael & Gail Pistello of
LaFollette; daughter, Sally Pistello of Clinton; sister, Gladys Oaks of
Morristown; grandchildren, Stephanie, Melissa and Robin: great grandchildren,
Robbie Michael and Ryan; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services
were Sept. 14 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. James Hulse officiating.
Interment was in the Emma Jarnigan Cemetery in Morristown with Victor Troubaugh
officiating. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Housley, for many years a resident
of Mountain Grove, were held in the First Baptist Church Friday afternoon at
2:00 o'clock with Reverend Ercil Barker officiating. Burial was made in Clifty
Hall cemetery under direction of the Barber Funeral Home. Anna Baldwin Housley
was born at Fincastle, Tennessee on March 20, 1870 and died at Mountain Grove,
Missouri on December 4, 1951 at the age of 81 years, 8 months, 14 days. She
spent her early life in Powells Valley, Tennessee and taught school at
Jellico in the mountainside near the Kentucky border. In this school, Homer
Rodehaver the song writer, was one of her pupils. In January, 1893, she left her
school in Tennessee and came to Missouri to marry John Franklin Housley who
had come to Missouri the previous year to take up a homestead. They began their
life together in a cabin near Prior, Missouri, later known as the Bausley place.
Later they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, but came back to Missouri and lived in
Douglas County until Mr. Housley's death in October 1939. Mrs. Housley then left
the farm and moved to Mountain Grove where her main interest was church and
Sunday school. Since early girlhood she has been a member of the Missionary
Baptist Church, and missed very few Sundays since moving to Mountain Grove.
She is the last of a large family of brothers and sisters to pass
away, but she leaves seven children out of family of eight: Mrs. Dora White,
St. Charles, Mo. and Mrs. Pearl Andrews and Mrs. Ethel Davis, Mtn. Grove,
Mo., Harvey Housley, Fostoria, Ohio, Mrs Nettie Peebles, Huntington Beach,
California, Mrs. Zenobia Holmes, Etna, California and Duncan Housley of Little
Rock, Arkansas,Gilbert, the oldest son, died in 1930 from casualties received in
World War I.

John Franklin Housley of Douglas county died last Thursday at his
home where he had lived for the past 30 years. He was one of Douglas county’s
well-respected citizens and will be missed in his home community, and his home
rural district school. Mr. Housley was either a school director or school clerk
of the Pleasant Valley school for the past 30 years. John Franklin Housley
was born in Claiborne county Tennessee, June 12, 1868. He moved to Douglas
County, Missouri at the age of 22 and homesteaded near Prior. On January 5,
1893 he married Anna Baldwin whom he had known in Tennessee. From then until the
present time they lived near the same locality with the exception of two
years in Texas. He had been in failing health for the past year and passed
away at his home near Goodsville, Thursday morning, October 19, 1939 at the
age of 71 years, 4 months and 7 days. He is survived by his wife, seven children
and twin brothers, Phillip of Springfield and Pleas of Goodsville, and eight
grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Roy Peebles of Huntington Beach,
California; Mrs. Harry Kucera of Hollywood, California; Duncan Housley of
Whittier, California; Harvey Housley of Fostoria, Ohio; Mrs. Adnea Davis of
Prior, Mrs. Dora White and Mrs. Daly Andrews of Mountain Grove, Mo.
Gilbert, the second child, died from affects of the World War.Mr. Housley was a
member of the old General Baptist church established at Clifty Hall some
forty years ago. He was widely known in this and the surrounding territory,
having been Justice of Peace for the past thirty years and active in other civic
affairs. Mrs. White, Mrs. Andrews, and Mrs. Davis were with him at the time of
his death. The other children had been home recently and had not planned to
return.Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. M.Q. Kent at the Clifty Hall
school house and burial was in the cemetery near the by under the direction of
the Botten Funeral Home.

Carlton Eugene Hyde, - age 84 of Jacksboro, passed away Sunday
August 8, 2004 at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. He was retired from the
Marketing Division of Delta Airlines. Preceded in death by: parents, Clarence
and Louise Ulmer Hyde. Survivors: wife, Frances Hyde, Jacksboro; and brother,
Corbett E. Hyde of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Memorial Service 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, August 11, at Jacksboro First Baptist Church. Rev Bill Morris
officiating. Inurnment in Jacksboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be made to Campbell County Humane Society or Campbell County Heart Association.
