Bessie L. Parker, 81, of Toledo, OH, formerly of the Cane Creek, KY community, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14 at the Toledo Hospital, after a long illness. She was born March 13, 1923, at Frakes, KY, the daughter of the late Elbert and Mossie Jones Partin. Preceded in death by: husband: Chester Parker; brothers: Willard Partin and Willie Partin; sister: Betty Sue Ball. She is the loving mother of Verlin R. Parker & Wife, Linda, of Toledo, OH; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers: Jerry Wayne Partin & wife, Ella Joan of Cleveland, TN; William Partin of Williamsburg, KY; sisters: Lois Benson & husband, Ron of Los Angeles, CA; several nieces and nephews. She is loved and will be missed. Reach down oh Lord, and take her hand so she may walk where You have planned.  Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004 at the Cox & Son Chapel with Rev. Willie Partin officiating. Internment will be in the Clear fork Cemetery at Cane Creek, KY. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Cox & Son Funeral Home is in charge.

Earnest M. Parker age 84 of Jacksboro, formerly of the Alder Springs Community in LaFollette died June 20 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a retired farmer, member and Deacon of the Alder Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one sister, Rosie Parker Bruce; brothers, Elisha Parker, Hubert Parker, and Leonard Parker.He is survived by his wife,. Wanda L. Parker of Jacksboro; daughter, Janet Lovett and husband, Moses of Lithia Springs, GA; son, Eugene E. Parker and wife, Peggy of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Felicia Lovett of Lithia Springs, GA and Bryan Parker and wife, Karen of LaPorte, TX; great-grandchild, Aaron Parker of LaPorte, TX; brother, Harvey Parker of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were June 22. at Walters Chapel with Rev. O.D. Hill and Rev. Steve Elkins officiating. Interment was in Campbell Memorial Gardens. Sgt. George Leon Parker, better known as (G.L.), age 74 of LaFollette died Sept. 13 at his home. He was born March 5, 1930. A loving husband of 58 years, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, G.L. was a police officer for 33 years, constable for many years, and a farmer for 57 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elisha and Belvia Parker. Survivors: Wife, Mrs. Lucille Parker of LaFollette. Daughter, Sue Robbins of LaFollette; grandchildren, Christal and Jeffrey Chumley, DeWayne and Brenda Robbins, Jason and Leola Robbins, all of LaFollette; great-grandchildren, Tyler Chumley, Russell and Courtney Robbins; several other relatives and friends. Funeral services are today (Sept. 16) at 8 p.m. at Walters Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Orick and Rev. Steve Elkins officiating. Graveside services and interment will be Friday (Sept. 17) at 11 a.m. at Shelby and Shepherd Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 16) before services at Walters Funeral Home. Walters Funeral is in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia Partin, age 82 of Lake Charles, LA, formerly of New Lebanon, OH went home to be with the Lord on Aug.24 at the Golden Age Nursing Home. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Dayton, OH. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeramy Shockey; parents, William and Maratha Longmire; sisters, Wilma Longmire, Mary Ford, Grace Reynolds; brothers, Jack and Ed Longmire. She is survived by her son and companion, Wayne Partin and Pam Adams of Lake Charles, LA; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and David Brombaugh of New Lebanon, OH; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Devonia Native Dies At Hospital

A Devonia community native, Mrs. Lillie Patterson, 72, died at 4 p.m. Monday at Methodist Medical Center.Mrs. Patterson, who enjoyed quilting and raising flowers, was a member of the Free Communion Baptist Church.Her husband, George died in 1940. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Guy (Christine) Byrge and Mrs. Cordis (Jurline) Byrge, both of Devonia, one grandson, brother, Bryant Seiber of Petros and a sister, Miss. Luvernie Seiber of Devoina. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Dana Ward officiating. Burial is to be in Seiber Cemetery in Devoina at 1 p.m Thursday (today).

James H. Payne, age 76 of Hamilton, OH died at his home on Aug. 12 at 11:10 a.m. He was born in LaFollette on Oct. 21, 1927, the son of James and Ruth Jeffries Payne. He was a member of the Princeton Pike Church of God, the Amazing Grace Choir of the church, a veteran of World War II with the United States Army from 1946 to 1947 and was employed as a machinist for Champion International for 33 years, retiring in 1989. On June 7, 1947 he was married to Juanita Collingsworth in LaFollette. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Payne, Hamilton, OH; son, Michael and wife, Sheryl Payne, Hamilton, OH; daughters, Carolyn and husband, Vergil Knight, Erlanger, KY, Brenda and husband, James Arrowood of Greenville, SC, Helen Payne, Hamilton, OH; brother, Frank and wife, Pat Payne, LaFollette; sisters, Arlie Carr, Mason, OH, Betty and husband, Emerson Heatherly, formerly of High Point, NC; grandchildren, Noel, Daniel, Traci and Lyndsey; great  grandchildren, Kyla and Drew. Funeral services were Aug. 14 at the Princeton Pike Church of God with Rev. Marvin Cann officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Senior Adult Ministries of Princeton Pike Church of God. Brown-Dawson Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.

Monroe Pennington, age 81 of LaFollette passed away Friday, December 10, 2004 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Pennington enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by son: Tony Pennington; Great grandchild: Tosha Archer; Parents: Perrin and Della Huddleston Pennington. Mr. Pennington in survived by wife: Opal Pennington of LaFollette; Sons: James Pennington of Richmond, Ky., Bill and Terry Pennington; Daughters: Jean Morgan, Linda Heatherly, Pat Rosenbaum, all of LaFollette, Audry Disney of Friendsville, Tn.; Step-daughter: Shirley Love of LaFollette; 17 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; Sisters: Thelma Hill of Andersonville, Tn., and Ruth Claiborne and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were at 8:00 pm Sunday, December 12 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Cap Henney officiating. Interment was at 11:00 am Monday in Davis Chapel Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday before funeral services.

Funeral Held Wednesday For Mechanic

Funeral services for Amos Phillips, 41, of Lake City Rt 2 were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fratersville Baptist Church with the Rev. Edwin Phillips officiating. Burial was in Leach Cemetery. Mr. Phillips died Monday night at his home. He was a mechanic, a veteran of World War II and a member of Fratersville Baptist Church. Mrs.Phillips Dies, Native Of Stainville.
Mrs.Annie J. Phillips, 69, of Oliver Springs Rt.1 died Friday at 11:25 a.m.in Oak Ridge Hospital.   She was the widow of a coal miner,William Phillips, and formerly lived in the Stainville community of North Anderson County. Services were held Monday afternoon at Grave Hill Baptist Church near Stainville with the Rev. Edmund Phillips and the Rev. Carvin Phillips officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She was a member of that church.Mrs.Phillips leaves three daughtersm Mrs. Mary Seiber of Devonia, Mrs. Monroe Seiber Oliver Springs, and Mrs.Margaret Jones of Wartburg, three sons, Early Phillips of Clinton, Lonzie Phillips of Oliver Springs, and Fred Phillips of Middletown.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Free Community Baptist Church for Mrs. Annie Phillips, 81, of Devonia Rt.1, who died Saturday at Lake City Hospital. Mrs.Phillips was the wife Mark Phillips, a retired coal miner. The Devonia native was a member of the Free Community Baptist Church. She leaves her husband, four sons, Columbus Jones of West Virginia. Walker Phillips of Michigan, Ruben Phillips of Devonia and Jimmy Phillips of Muddlesboro, Ky. four daughters, Mrs. Oma Kennedy of Duff, Mrs.Girtha Sieber of Illinios, Mrs. Julia Bunch and Mrs. Maxie Seiber, both of Devonia, 59 grandchildren, two half-brothers, L and Levi Daugherty, both of Caryville. The Rev.Carvin Phillips officiated at the services.
Burial was in the Tommy Phillips Graveyard.

Services were held Sunday at 1p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lee Phillips officiating.Burial was in the church cemetery.

Jack J. Phillips, 78, died Friday, October 24, 2003 at his home. He was born August 5, 1925 at Red Oak Mountain. He was a coalminer for about 30 years and also worked for the County Highway Department for the State Forestry Division and for the State on I-75 fencing. He was saved a few days before his was 17 years old and joined the Red Oak Church. He sang in the choir as a bass singer for about 12 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. James and Sarah Byrge Phillips; three sisters, Cressie Phillips, Eva Bunch and Reba Chapman; five uncles, Joe, Matthew, John, Melt and Bill Phillips; three aunts, Elizabeth Daugherty, Mary Byrge and Emily Buckheart and son-in-law, George Wieber. Jack is survived by her wife of 48 years, Mary Magdalene Fritts Phillips; one daughter, Mary Delilah Wieber, Louisville, Ky.; son and wife, Denford and Greta Phillips, Knoxville; four grandchildren, Travis and Aaron Phillips, both of LaFollette, Monica Wieber Backette and George Wieber, Louisville Ky.; four step-grandchildren, Laken Perri, Brookland Perri, Madison Helton and Mason Helton, all of Knoxville; two step-great-granddaughters, Samantha and Savanna Bickett; four sisters, Ollie and husband, Jasper Carroll, Elamae Ellison, Lorene Mickles, and Ervie McCulley, LaFollette; brother, Virgie and wife, Shirley Phillips, Jacksboro, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Saturday, October 25 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. David Hicks and brother, Carl Bradshaw officiating. Mrs.Juda Phillips,85,of Foley Hill Rd.Clinton Rt.2,died at 4:25a.m.Friday at Oak Ridge Hospital of heart disease.
she was the wife of Benjamin Phillips,a retired coal miner,whose 100th birthday was Sunday.Mrs.Phillips was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Caryville,and she enjoyed making quilts.She was a native of Caryville,and she had moved to the home of her daughter,Mrs.Pearl Wilshire,near Clinton three years ago.Other survivors include another daughter, Mrs.Ernie Blanton of Shiloh,Ohio,four sons,Abe,Robert,and Jay Will Phillips of Caryville Rt.1 and Matthew Phillips of Claxton, several grandchildren,great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren,a stepson,Tommy Phillips of Akron,Ohio, and a step-daughter, Sarah Patterson of Caryville Rt.1.Funeral services were held Sunday at Beech Fork Church with the Rev.Edmond Phillips the  Rev.Carvin Phillips and Rev.Joby Byrge officiating.Burial was in Phillips Cemetery.

of heart disease and pneumonia.He was a Baptist minister and served as pastor at several Anderson and Campbell County churches. Before retiring he was pastor at Grave's Gap Church.Mr.Phillips was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church at Beech Fork. Luther David Phillips, 22, of Devonia died Monday at 10 p.m. in the Medical division of Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies where he had been admitted July 3. He was a victim of leukemia. Funeral services were to be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church Devonia, with the Rev. Milford Ely and the Rev. Edmond Phillips officiating. Services were conducted Sunday morning at New Pilot Baptist Church for Mrs. Sarah Phillips, 66, who died Thursday April 24, at her home in Stainville. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Lee Phillips and Rev. Edwin Phillips.A member of New Pilot Baptist Church, she is survived by three sons, Guy and Condy, both of Charlie Branch, and Richard of Stainville, five sisters, Mrs. Nancy Jane Wilson of Lake City, Mrs. Susie Seiber of Lafollette, Martha Ann Phillips and Ellen Phillips of Stainville, three brother, Golda Phillips of Stainville, Fletcher Phillips of Charlie Branch, Dewey Phillips of Rosedale, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Burial was in Phillips Cemetery with Cox of Lake City in charge.

William Eli Phillips, 54, died at his home in Stainville, Jan 26. He was a member of Grave Hill Baptist Church. Survivor are wife Annie Jones Phillips, three daughters, Mrs.Virgil Seiber of Charley's Branch. Mrs.Daffia Seiber of Stainville, Mrs.Margaret Jones of Detroit, three sons, Early of Lexington KY. Lonzie of Harlan, KY and Fred of Oliver Springs. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan 29 at the Grave Hill Baptist Church at Stainville with  Rev. O. S. Duggar and the Rev. Lee Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Phillips Cemetery. Schubert of Wartburg had charge.

Freeman Pierce, age 84 of Speedwell was born April 12, 1920 and died Sept. 1 at Claiborne County Hospital. He was a member of Carr's Chapel Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Milda Capps Pierce; parents, Goerge and Sintha Russell Pierce; sister, Lettie Beeler; infant son and brother. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Braden Pierce; daughters, Hester and husband, Jim Hurst, Wilma and husband, Pat McNew, Virginia and husband, Clay Fortner, all of Speedwell; step-daughter, Rebecca and husband, Brian Harp; step-son, Ricky and wife, Maria Braden, all of Speedwell; sisters, Ruth Jones, Tazewell, Daisy Muncy, Sharps Chapel, Zettie Harless, Maynardville; brother, Fuller "Joe" Pierce, Luttrell; 9 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Sept. 4 at Reece Valley Chapel with Revs. Leonard Ellison and Mitchell Nash officiating. Interment was in the Greasy Hollow Cemetery. Yvonna Gail Chapman Pistello, - age 51 of LaFollette, passed away on November 19 at her home. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Pistello was a nurse and worked in LaFollette Medical Center Emergency Room before going to work at Brycliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge till she retired in 1998. She loved the outdoors, fishing, swimming, and waterskiing. She also loved her family very much. She is preceded in death by: grandparents, Blaine and Ollie Chapman and Johnny and Alma Henegar; nephew, Sammy Richardson. Mrs. Pistello is survived by: husband, Micheal Pistello of LaFollette; daughter and son- in-law, Robin and Rex Kitts of Jacksboro; daughter, Melissa Pistello of LaFollette; grandchildren, Robin and Ryan Kitts of Jacksboro; parents, Arlis and Helen Chapman of LaFollette; sisters, Shelia Strunk of Huntsville, Karen Miller of LaFollette, and Melinda Richardson of Jacksboro; 8 nieces and nephews; and host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services 8 pm Tuesday in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Braden officiating. Interment will be 11 am Wednesday in Bakers Forge Cemetery. Mary C. Powers, age 86 of Jellico died June 19 at Jellico Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Caleb Powers; sons, Roscoe, Delmus and Junior Powers; daughter, Brenda Brandenburg; one great great granddaughter. She is survived by her sons, Rev. Estes Powers and wife, Doris of Jellico and Rev. Earl Powers of Jellico; daughter, Lillie Cox of Cleveland; uncles, Claude Campbell, Williamsburg and Finley Campbell of Williamsburg; special friend, Renda Rutherford, LaFollette and Phyllis Bailey of LaFollette; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were June 22 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Walden and Rev. Ed Smiddy officiating. Interment was in the Peabody Cemetery. Albert Nathan Prater, 87, of LaFollette, died Wednesday, Feb. 7. He was a veteran of WWII. He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Nancy Wright Prater; brothers Chester L. Prater and Ulis Prater; sister Martha Prater Robbins.

He is survived by wife Jessie M. Prater of LaFollette; daughter Gloria Jean Prater of LaFollette; sister Reva Prater and Maggie Prater Sharp both of LaFollette; brothers Frank Prater of LaFollette and Charlie Prater of Clinton.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 8, at Walters Chapel with Rev. Larry Russell officiating. Interment was held in Bakers Forge Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Preston David Presley, died suddenly at his Jacksboro home on Monday, Oct. 4, 2004. After growing up in the Akron, Ohio area, he served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and in the Naval Air Reserve during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Presley worked for Burroughs for 36 years, many of them as a Field Engineering Manager in Lima, Ohio. He was a member of Lafollette United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. He was also on the board of Food Life Service of Campbell County and a Boy Scout Leader in Lima, Ohio and in the Cumberland District. He was preceded in death by: his mother, Marie Dennis; brother, Darold Slabaugh; and grandson, Matthew Presley. Mr. Presley is survived by: his wife, Ruby; son, David of Fremont, Ohio; and grandchildren, Amanda and Steven; son, Gary of Milford, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Christine and grandchildren, Nicole, Caitlin and William; sisters, Norma Coughlin and Sheryle Ball (Paul); brother, Gary Slabaugh (Alyce); and sister-in-law, Debra Slabaugh. Extended family includes: Ola Wood, Dr. Burgin and Jo Wood, Wilma Jonston, and Mike and Jane Westbrook. Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lafollette Methodist Church, with a memorial service at 5 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to: Food Life Services of Campbell County, P.O. Box 804, Jacksboro, TN, 37757, or to: Cub Scout Pack 435 at Lafollette United Methodist Church or Boy Scout Troop 622 in Lafollette Presbyterian Church. Timothy Scott Price, four-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Price, Fairborn Ohio formerly of Lafollette, died March 1 at Childrens Medical Center Dayton, Ohio. He is survived by his brother, William Earl, at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Price formerly of Lafollette and Mr. and Mrs. James Givens of Fairborn Ohio his great grandmother Mrs. Doris Price of Knoxville. He was buried Saturday March 4 in Fairborn.

Luther Pyles Jr., age 81 of LaFollette passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. Luther enjoyed guns, cars, watching football and enjoyed his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Sr. and Parlie Ayers Pyles. Mr. Pyles is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Luther III and Angel Pyles; Grandchildren: Adam, Ivan, and Evan Pyles all of LaFollette; and other relatives and friends.
