Second, I hope that 2008 has been a very successful year for everybody in your genealogical research! Every 4th Saturday, we are having "Genealogical Day" at the Washington County - Jonesborough Library. There is no set time as to when our Genealogical Day begins but we are usually in the library by 9:30 a.m. We usually say, "drop in anytime on Saturday morning." Genealogical Day is a time that the members of the JGS can work on various projects or help those with questions or need help with their research. We are meeting every 4th Saturday that is if the library is open. We will be having guest speakers on the following "Genealogical Day" at 10:00 a.m.. April 25 Lori Thornton, "Basics of DNA for the Family Historian" May 30 Cherel Henderson July 25 Ned Irwin, "Archives: the Do's and Don'ts" August 22 Shelia Hunt, "Genealogy" November 21 Thanksgiving / Christmas get-together, 11:30 a.m. Restaurant will be announced later The Jonesborough Genealogical Society is establishing a Hall of Fame. The JGS wants to recognize and express our appreciation to those who have gone above and beyond in their research and in preserving the historical documents. A JGS Hall of Fame plaque will be placed in the genealogical section of the Washington County - Jonesborough Library. On May 30, Genealogical Day, the Jonesborough Genealogical Society will be inducting into the JGS Hall of Fame this year's nominees. Cherel Henderson of East TN Historical Society will be our guest speaker. We will be meeting in the Community Room of the Library. At 9:30 a.m., we will be having breakfast / brunch and at 10:00 a.m. we will begin our program. Make plans to be with us! And we are accepting nominations for next year inductions into the JGS Hall of Fame. This year our meetings, when we join with the Washington County Historical Society, will be the following. These meetings are held at the Washington County Courthouse in the courtroom upstairs at 10:00 a.m.. May 16 Doug Ledbetter, "Overmountain Victory Trail" July 18 trip to Knoxville to tour the East TN Historical Society museum permanent exhibit September 19 Alan Bridwell, "A Visit Back to Little Chicago in the Roaring 1920's" November 6 Jon Ruetz, "Endangered Historic Structures and Sites of Washington County" Annual banquet, 6:30 p.m., Jonesborough Visitors Center The JGS has a business meeting at 9:30 a.m. Come and be with us! A committee has been formed and is working on our project, "Early Settlers of Jonesborough and Washington County prior to 1850." We are thankful for those who have sent us material for this book! Right now we are trying to figure out how we are going to get this material in a computer so that we can work with it. Any suggestions? It is time to once again to talk about dues, which are $5.00 per year. They are due again. Please, any suggestions, ideas, etc please let me know.
