NOTE: The three stagecoach [stops] on the old Walton Road at Mt.
Juliet were the GLEAVES or TABLER inn, the LUMPKIN inn, and the CAWTHON inn.
The LUMPKIN inn was run by the OBEDIAH LUMPKIN family; the CAWTHON
inn by the above family; and the GLEAVES or TABLER inn was run either by
GUY T. GLEAVES or his son-in-law, JASPER TABLER. Only remnants of the LUMPKIN
inn remain of the three (1950s). It was the first on the journey west toward
Nashville, and its two hugh rock chumneys were then (1950s) resting piles
of masonry marking the size of the once proud hostelry. The other two inns
can be placed in reference to the family cemeteries. The GLEAVES and CAWTHON
family cemeteries are in these [listings] volumes . The LUM{KIN cemetery
is still marked, but all markers were destroyed when the railroad was run
through the old place. This sketch of histori was given to me by Miss CARRIE
CAWTHON, who was in her 80s at the time and still living in Mt. Juliet in
the old homeplace.
