Hi Nancy,
Thanks so much for providing the great service! Would you please post this
Query in regard my families as follows:
I am trying to find the parents or siblings of my Obadiah ELDRIDGE and have
been searching forever it seems, <Grin> for that particular missing
link!
Obadiah Eldridge married a Martha REDDIN, abt. 1832 (?? Calloway Co.
KY.)
It was a reference but, we have not been able to produce a marriage record.
Obadiah ELDRIDGE b. 1807 TN. appeared on the 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860 census
in Calloway Co. KY. >>>
Also a Warren ELDRIDGE, age 20-30 was the only other ELDRIDGE that was on
the Calloway Co. KY. census for 1840. Because of that I believe that Warren
could be a possible younger brother to my Obadiah ELDRIDGE!
Interestingly enough when Obadiah Eldridge first appeared on the 1830 census
it was with his children only no wife! !
I am at a total dead end with my g.g. grandfather Obadiah Eldridge.
Maybe some of these names will be familiar to the West KY. list! I have stacks
of ELDRIDGE information but until I can make a connection with Obadiah and
his parents and siblings I am stuck in history!!!
I found another Obed Eldridge b. 1785 who may be a parent or uncle to my
Obadiah ELDRIDGE. He first appears on the 1830 Census in Jefferson Co. TN.
pg 290, 1840 pg. 284, : 1850 censous Obed Eldridge 65 b. 1785 VA. Nancy 37
b.1813 TN, Rebecca age 28.
The following is information on my Eldridge Family. If you see anything that
you could help me with I would appreciate any Help on the Eldridges! I have
been at a stand still for months now on finding parents, siblings of Obadiah
Eldridge!

I just ran across your website and noticed you have the LANE family of
Wilson Co., Tn. listed as one of the ones you are researching.
I have been searching for information on Absalom LANE, who was in
Wilson Co. in 1820. In 1830 he was in Rutherford Co. I don't know
if he moved or the boundaries changed.
Anyway, I believe he might be the father of my Absalom LANE who was
in Hardeman Co., Tn. in 1840 and then on into Tippah Co., MS.
In Hardeman Co. TN, he married Melissa BROWN.
Are you familiar with this line? I would really appreciate any information
you have on this family.
Absalom LANE, in Tippah Co. MS, would be my great great grandfather.
His daughter, Sarah Susan "Sally" LANE married Simeon E. BOOKOUT,
in Tippah Co. MS in 1872.
My grandfather said she was full blooded Cherokee Indian and had deep auburn
hair.
Enjoyed your site and reading the tips on genealogy!!!

10. Ora BIGGS, who m ---CAMPBELL a dentist of Memphis,
11.Asa BIGGS, of Colliersville.
I would very much like to hear from you to see if any of this information
is useful.
If you know anyone descended from any of these people I would be glad to
send them the BIGGS genealogy.
I got this information from the papers of my great grandfather. His papers
include a letter written by James BIGGS in 1856. In it he mentions "son William's
family having the chills". He says "Lovina BRADY is confined to her bed with
little hope of her recovery "(daughter who m--Brady). "Hardamon ABBINGTON
(husband of daughter Elizabeth) appears to be nearly burned out with whiskey".
There is mention of a lot of politics that might be of interest to a historian.
Hope this is useful.

#1 Sarah L.b.@1832 Lewis Co. Tennessee married Thomas Michael GODWIN and
evidently moved to Barry County Missouri @1880 after her fathers death
#2. Lavinia Dabbs @1834 Lewis Co. married George R. KEELING; moved to Orewgon

living somewhere in California or Illionis.
My Joseph DABBS married a second time to Jincy Angeline RANDEL WHITWELL
(She too was previously married and 1st husband was killed during the Civil
War.)
Evidently Joseph's first children did not get along with his second wife
and that is why the girls moved to Missouri in 1880.

My family traces its ancestry to a Drewery TAYLOR who was born in 1778 in

There is little to speculate about his descendancy, because it is documented
in "GOODSPEED," a TN history, in Humphreys County, TN census records, and
in Humphreys County history.
We haven't been able to trace him back from when he appeared in TN, though.
He had a son whose name was also Drewery TAYLOR, to avoid confusion.

From: cheeryb@surfsouth.com (Ginger

Genny,
I do not know how to start this search for my mother's family. Her mother
died when she was three and her father when she was 12?
She was a Wood and lived with her grandmother until she married at
the early age of 16 (or thereabouts).
Her name was Sue SWINNEY WOOD and she married a Ruhl Herman LAWSON in either
Erin or Paris, Tennessee.
Her mother was a WOOD, but she was also related to the SNOW family somehow.
She was born around 1910 (we don't even have a birth record to be sure).
She died in Milan. Tennessee in 1971.
We are not sure of her place of birth but she did tell us that her father
was a tobacco man from North Carolina.
She had a brother who died when he was an infant, and her only other relative
died in California, He was her brother and the last link we had to her life.
Where would you start? Marriage records?
Our dad died in 1981 and we have very little information about her family.
He was incapacitated the last few years before his death and unable to help
with this sort of research.
Apparently their marriage was somewhere around 1925-28.She did work at a
department store in Paris, Tennessee when she was early married. She did
have social security paid for her on her wages then (1940's). ???However,
I'm not sure about the facts of when soc. sec. actually began.
As you can see, this will be a tough beginning with this search for her family.
She must have a birth certificate but I'm not sure where to hunt for
it---North Carolina probably, but I do not know the county.
Do you think I have any hope ? Thanks for your expertise and advice in this
matter. Ginger Brodie,

CAMERON, CONLEY, MILLER, STORY,
DUNCAN:
Subj: Cameron's Date: 97-06-18
From: CONLYN2@aol.com
June 17:
I thought that I had sent this to you last March but evidently I clicked
on the wrong button so I am sending it now hoping that you can help me.
Thank you for your very encouraging letter.
My name is, Mary S. Conley; 90 Old Stow Rd. , Concord, MA 01742.
Since my letter to you I have had a chance to go through and begin to
organize my Mother's notes as she had been doing research on the Camerons
before she died.
The information of which I am sure is as follows:
James C. CAMERON was born in TN, probably in Giles Co. on 11 Aug, 1821 and
died 6 Aug, 1868 in Giles Co.
He was married to Mary Hannah MILLER b. 1827, d. 1910 in Giles Co. Her parents
were Henry MILLER and Nancy (Nancey) STORY, of Giles Co. Their children
were:
Robert Daniel CAMERON b. 1846,
Charles H. CAMERON b. 1850 and
Daniel Porter CAMERON ( my g. grandfather) b. 1852
It is now known that Elizabeth B. CAMERON was James' sister. She was born
in Maury Co. TN, 30 Oct. 1813, d. Maury Co. 25 March, 1891; buried in Salem
Methodist Cemetery, Campbellsville, TN.
She married James Campbell STORY, Jr. Their Children were;
Daniel Porter STORY,
John William STORY,
James Henry STORY,
Mary Hannah STORY,
Mordecai Byrd STORY,
Elizabeth Eva STORY,
Margaret A. STORY,
Sallie E. STORY, and
Atlas Monroe STORY.
Her father was said to be a Daniel CAMERON.
There were several Daniel Cameron's in Maury/Giles Co's at the relevant time.
The one who seems to fit the best in terms of dates and family names is a
Daniel CAMERON who married a Sarah DUNCAN in Davidson Co, TN. He was
born ca 1793 and Sarah was born ca 1787. The only info I have re them is
that they had a son, Robert Daniel CAMERON,
orn 1827 d 1839 and who is buried in Nashville.
I think Daniel had something to do with a firm, CAMERON & BROWN which
was in Nashville.
There are two further possible siblings of James C. CAMERON and Elizabeth
CAMERON besides Robert Daniel CAMERON.
An Allen B. CAMERON and a William CAMERON.
I have since gone to Nashville and am pretty sure that the above mentioned
Daniel and Sarah are not the people I'm looking for.
Can you suggest anyone in Maury or Giles County who does research as it will
not be possible for me to get back down there for some time.
Thank you.

BERNARD, HILL,

Subj: John Bernard Date: 97-06-27
From: janwilli@mindspring.com
(Jane Williams)
I am searching for information regarding John BERNARD, who was beheaded by
Indians at Dention Station in the spring of 1780.
His heir was Walter BERNARD, who was my Revolutionary War grandfather.
Two of Walter's sons claimed the land given to the families or their heirs
who settled the Cumberland River area.
These sons were William Samuel BERNARD and Thomas Hill BERNARD.
Nothing that Walter included in his Revolutionary War Pension application
has proven to be correct. He said he was born in Frederick County, Maryland,
baptised there at Rock Creek church and enlisted in Loundon County, Virginia.
We have looked for years for his family. I found the Compact on the Davidson
County, Tennessee genealogy page but think that John Bernard was deceased
by the time it was signed.
Also found the Donalson party listed but nothing for John Robertson who led
the other party into Cumberland River area in 1779-1780.
Family Bible Pages on file at the DAR Library show Walter, born 28 Feb 1758
and died 5 Feb 1841 and is buried in Tanyard Cem. Franklin County, Virginia.
He married Ruth HILL in Henry County, 4 June 1782.
Material has been located in various Tennessee books and is in our file but
we know nothing about how he got to Tennessee, where from, etc.
I will gladly share information about the family who remained in Franklin
County, Virginia.

Dear Mrs. Goodman,
I enjoyed visiting your website. In addition, I recently visited the Mt.

According to your site, we have some surnames in common.
My grandfather (my mother's father) was Joseph Thomas Arrington JENKINS,
son of Almerine Burnette (A.B.) JENKINS.
According to my records, we are descendants of William Harris JENKINS and
Jemima HUGHLEY.
I have Jemima being the daughter of Job and Tabitha HUGHELY.
In addition, my father and I are descendants Finis Ewing SHANNON, and Henry
SHANNON.
Do these names look familiar? Would you like to share records?
