MILLER - BATTLE

Steven Eugene Miller Tue Jan 1 16:44:47 2002
I am researching the ancestry of my great grandmother. Here is what I have as yet: She was born May, 1859 somewhere in Georgia. On the 1870 census, a Dora BATTLE is listed on the Hamilton County, Chattanooga, Tennessee census at the age of eleven. I am looking for the parents of Dora MILLER born June,1859 somewhere in Georgia. Here is the information I have found on the 1900 census of the Hamilton County, Chattanooga, Tennessee:
George MILLER was the deceased husband of Dora MILLER.
Dora MILLER born June, 1859 (head of houshold) 40yrs(widow).
Sofine MILLER born May,1882 (son) 18yrs
Fred MILLER born July, 1889 (son) 10yrs
Eugene MILLER born March, 1892 (son) 8yrs
Mary MILLER born October, 1898 (daughter) 1yr
Daniel WALKER born, 1849 Virginia (boarder) 59yrs

Between 1898 and 1901 Daniel WALKER maried Dora MILLER and they had a daughter born, 1901. and her name is Viola (WALKER) CLAY (Clay being her married name) She was known as Aunt Odie by family members. Dora is believed to be of Cherokee descent.

THOMPSON - LEATHERWOOD - SHELTON

Debbie Woolf Fri Jan 18 22:58:38 2002
I saw some Ham. Co. births online, are there 1882 births? I believe that my great great grandfather lived in Ham Co. He was originally serving GA 1st Reg. but transferred to Co. H 5th Mtd. Infantry and Co. B 5th Mtd. Infantry TN. He later applied for his Union Pension in TN 1882. I am receiving a copy of this pension but know he had a son Henry Miles THOMPSON born 1882 TN, and he always said he was from Chattannoga area. The lack of 1890 census has me really messed up and I can't locate them in 1900. If the Birth records exist in 1882 it could be a big help. A sister was also born in TN 1885 name Sarah Louada.
If either of these births could be located I might be able to finally prove who their mother was, either Sarah LEATHERWOOD or Sarah SHELTON. I'm stuck on this too, no marriage found.
Anyone? thanks, Debbie

Listed in the Forest Hills Cemetary with death date of Feb 8, 1892 #1856 is W.T. BARCLAY. I am trying to establish if this was my great grandfather Wiliam Thomas BARCLAY son of James W. BARCLAY of Brownsville, Haywood Co. Tn. He was married to Anna B. (READ) also of Brownsville. Their children were Claude, William, and Edwin with a daughter Dora of Anna's by a previous marriage to James PEEBLES. Also listed is a sallon owner with the same name and that may be why William was in this area of Tn. He had sold a black smithing business in Brownsville after 1886 or 1887 and I have not located hime since. 1900 Census shows Anna as a widow living in Nashville, Tn. with all children.
