ABERNATHY, GRAY

I'm looking for background info on James Madison (Mattison) ABERNATHY b 10-1842 d 12-4-1925. He married Nancy or Eliza Jane Gray. He was Cherokee, and his son Samuel Porter ABERNATHY filed with the Cherokee nation in the early 1900's but was told to get more information on his father. The story is James was abandoned in Soddy as a child. His mother was Cherokee, and had to leave the area, and so she left him there. He remained at Soddy for the rest of his life. Thanks, Pam
