Info on Jeffie Lee COOK, son of Samuel COOK, son of a COOK or possibly even a HOLT. Possible part Cherokee, also Scots-Irish blood. Jeffie Lee COOK also went by the name of Bill. He was born Sept(?) of 1907 through 1909. Father left their mom Callie (part Cherokee) maybe a CARTER or CARDER after Jeffie Lee (Bill) and his brother Howard were born. Know Callie then married a Cosmo FUSARENO or FUCARINO,or FUCCARINO, and they had houses in Chattanooga. One was on Cheek St.This was in the 1930's. J.L.COOK (Bill) was married several times.... a Berte or Birdie who drowned - may have been a legal inquer into her death,
a Lily Mae CONNELL(COOK) who was shot to death in 1935 by a friend of COOK's I think. This was in Chattanooga. COOK had married her in RINGGOLD GA. Approx 6 mo later in 1936 he married a RHEA girl also in Ringgold, Ga. They had a dau born in Chattanooga in 1937. They lived in Memphis for a time. Rising Fawn and Blue Ridge GA may have significance. An Onius HICKS may be significant. Think he died around Blue Ridge GA in late 1930's or early 1940's.
The younger brother Howard had a son called Howard Jr. who might have been born in the late 20's. Their dad Samuel seems to have lived across river from Louieville Kentucky in Indiana married again with at least another son, Robert or Bob. Name of HITE may be significant. Samuel might have been a self-styled preacher or minister or his dad. Rumors floating around saying a HOLT somewhere along the line changed his name to COOK. Callie would have relitives I think in GA and she maybe was born in North Carolina it is told. She died in L.A. CA with her husband after 1950! RHEA girl divorced Jeffie Lee COOK (Bill) in Chattanooga in 1944 or possibly 45. Think 44 though.

HAMILTON COUNTY - My ggrandfather kept a diary for about 30 years as hemoved around TN and GA. In 1890, He was in Trenton, Ga teaching school. He mentions several times going to Chattanooga to visit "cousin Robert and Lizzie BURTON, cousin Nannie BURTON, cousin Fannie TAYLOR, cousin Belle TAYLOR. His wife was Fannie Tallula WILLIAMS and I think that maybe these were her cousins but I cannot find any clues in his papers. I have traced Nannie BURTON to Nashville when she married Robert MEDEARIS. Lizzie BURTON wound up in Memphis. I think her husband, Robert may have lost his mind and had to be committed.
If anybody has these people in their line I would like to correspond and see where we might connect. best regards Ashley Watson

I am told that Debra Tennessee PARKER (BANDY) and family were living in Chattanooga during the Civil War. I am told that as the confederate soldiers were approaching their home from one side, and the Union soldiers the other, that Debra (TENNIE) was sent to the BANDY's in North Georgia for safety reasons. She married Thomas Jefferson BANDY, and when she returned to her homestead, her family had disappeared. Union soldiers were occupying the home. They were never able to find any information on her family afterwards. We assume they were killed. TENNIE is my great grandmother - she had several children. There could possibly be a connection with the family name of CAMERON as well. If anyone has knowledge or even heard rumors about this incident or TENNIE, please contact me. Carole

My great grandfather was Israel Alonzo CONDRAY who married Amanda Jane Pendergrass. He was wounded twice during the Civil War and I know that he died before the 1880 census as his wife and family was in Etowah County, Alabama in 1880.
According to his Civil War records he was entitled to a land bounty which was probably claimed in Hamilton County.
According to an article that John Wilson wrote in the Chattanooga Free Press his parents were Lester and Martha CONDRY. I have been unable to find them in a census record. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to look for information to find his parents?
My grandfather was John Woodford CONDRAY. His siblings were Ellen, Rhoda, Sterling, Stephen, William, Asa, Mary "Mollie", Thomas, Anna, and Perliona. Many of these names are CONDRY names so can anyone give me a clue as to who his parents were?
Thanks. Libby Clay

Two McGHEE mysteries. HELP!
1. A Dr. John Barclay McGHEE is said to have committed suicide in a Chattanooga Hotel in July 1855 (or 56?). Are there any Chattanooga papers for this time period that have survived so the story (if any) on this could be researched?
2. Barclay McGHEE (of Blount and Monroe counties) was murdered in a Chattanooga Hotel room in September 1856. Family lore has it that he was murdered by Washington Morgan to avenge an insult to the honor of Morgan's sister. The murder was unsolved, however. Again, same question regarding news coverage -- Does anyone know a likely source or a person who might be knowledgeable about this?

I have come to believe that Michael KILIAN b. 1732 Germany and d. abt. May 1793 in Orange Co., NC may have been the immigrant ancestor for whom I'm searching. He sailed from Germany on the Ship Dragon landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1749. He lived in Davidson Co., NC at some point.
His possible children, birthplaces unknown:
Andrew b. 1750 >Wilkes Co., NC
Catherine b. abt. 1752
Jacob b. 1755 >W.VA>KY>IN and was a Revolutionary War soldier.
George b. ca. 1756-7 in NC>Stokes Co>Rowan Co., NC on Abbott's Creek.
John b. 1758 in NC>Stokes Co, NC and was a Revolutionary War soldier. He married Rebecca Wilborn of Surry Co., NC. She filed for a pension in Scott Co., W. Virginia.
Henry b. ca. 1760 >Burke Co., NC>Bledsoe, TN. Possible son my Andrew KILLIAN b. abt. 1795 in TN who married Penninah LASHATER of E. TN. Andrew and Penninah's only surviving child was my gggrandfather, Henry B. KILLIAN of Bollinger Co., Missouri who married Margaret Jane Sweezy. Bledsoe Co. TN was also the home of the LASSATER / LASSETER / LASITOR family ie. Hardy>Burrell>Burton. Although I cannot prove that Penninah was in this line, I highly suspect that she was connected to them somehow. Andrew is found on the Bledsoe Co. tax list in 1815 and later in 1820 on the Perry Co. tax list where I suspect he died in 1834. It was after that that Penninah moved with her children to Graves Co. KY, then on to Cape Girardeau Co in 1838 where she lived until her death in 1842. Cape Girardeau Co. borders Bolllinger Co. where Henry resided on 900 acres and had 10 children with Margaret Jane. Their oldest child, John Michael b. 1850 md. Lorena Rowe and they had ten children. The 2 youngest William and Thomas (my grandfather) were orphaned around the respective ages of 11-13. (I have quite a lot of information from Henry to date)
Possibly other children were born between 1760 and 1768.
William b. 1768 >Orange Co., NC>Claiborne Co., TN
Isaac b. (?) >Surry Co., NC
I'm searching for Andrew KILLIAN's and Penninah LASHATER's birthplaces, where they lived, who their parents were, when and where they were married.

I am looking for information on my grandfather, William Vernon SMITH (or William Vernon MORGAN, as he was known prior to his adoption.) His adoptive parents were Courtland and Lora SMITH, who lived in Chattanooga, according to the 1920 Census for Hamilton County. I am looking for anyone that might have information about Courtland SMITH's death or the accident.
