MONTGOMERY - RUSSELL - SELLERS

Cindy McLaughlin Mon Oct 22 12:58:11 2001
Seeking to prove that Hiram M. MONTGOMERY (1829-1900) was the son of Lewis MONTGOMERY, wife unknown. Lewis is found on the 1830 and 1840 census records of Hamilton Co TN. He is nowhere to be found in TN in 1850. Was hoping that some kind soul out there might have a book(s) of court, probate, or deed records that might link Hiram to Lewis. Lewis lived in close proximity to Matthew and Anna RUSSELL on Sale Creek. Hiram married their daughter Malinda Elizabth in 1849. I have their marriage record, but would appreciate any other information on them as well.

In one of my other lines, Sampson SELLERS was in Hamilton Co in 1840 as well. He came from NC originally, through Rhea Co and into Hamilton. Some say he moved on to Barry Co MO. Sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks!

MONTGOMERY - RUSSELL - WITT

Duane Helweg Fri Oct 26 08:12:10 2001
My main interest is in finding the father or family of my gg-grandfather, Hiram M. MONTGOMERY, in Tennessee. He is in Rhea Co. marriage records in 1849 as H. M. MONTGOMERY marrying E. M. (Elizabeth Malinda) RUSSELL. They are living with her mother, Anna (Witt) RUSSELL in the 1850 Hamilton County census with their two-month-old daughter, Amanda. Hiram is shown as farming (he later becomes a physician). They are probably in the Sale Creek area.

Anna RUSSELL is a widow (husband Matthew RUSSELL, son of John RUSSELL, supposedly disappeared on the "Trail of Tears" about 1838) in the 1840 Hamilton Co. census and living four households away from a Lewis MONTGOMERY. He may well be the father of our Hiram as he shows a male in the household between ages 10-15. Hiram was 21 in the 1850 census and would have been age 11 in 1840. Lewis is also in the 1830 census in Hamilton County. There is also a John MONTGOMERY in the 1840 census and has a son age 10-15, but is several pages away from Anna RUSSELL on the census. Her parents were Margaret and Jesse WITT.

There is no Lewis or John MONTGOMERY in the 1850 census in Hamilton County. Lewis may have died (he was between age 40-50 in the 1840 census), thus my interest in someone checking the Hamilton records for a probate, will or heirs deed.

Seeking info on any of these MONTGOMERY's, RUSSELL's or WITT's

Fred Hagan Sat Dec 8 09:01:52 2001
Richard W. HAGAN was born in Frederick County, MD abt 1821. He married Mary Elizabeth OFFUTT there in 1841. They moved to Hamilton County, TN sometime after 1850 as they are not listed on that counties 1850 census. Richard and Mary are buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN.

Richard and Mary had seven children that I know of: Isadore, Elia, Edgar, Richard, Jr., Wallace, Alonzo,, Malissa. I need information about these children and to locate any living descendant still living in Hamilton County.

SUGGS

william Mon Dec 10 21:48:33 2001
I'm trying to find info on the children born to Martha J SUGGS. Martha was born in Georgia in 1860, but she produced children in Tn. She was known to be a house keeper in the Chattanooga area. Her children are: Wm M. SUGGS b. 1875, Jack SUGGS b.1881, John SUGGS b. 1884, Archie SUGGS b. 1888 and Ida Bell SUGGS b. 1889 all in Tn. Martha was never married or we can't find a marriage a record. We do not know who the fathers are of these children or where Martha died. Marthas father was George W. SUGGS, but not sure who her mother was. Any help would be appreciated, if you can find the fathers of these children or Martha's mother. E-mail me at histbuff@mounet.com Thank you William

Donald Raby Sun Dec 23 16:31:58 2001
I have a letter dated 1886 from Hiram ROBERTS to his brother in law and mother in law James HORD and Lucinda (HORD) RABY notifying them of the death of his wife Sarah (HORD) ROBERTS.
He lists the children of Hiram and Sarah (HORD) ROBERTS:
Tom ROBERTS, Millard ROBERTS, Darlie ROBERTS, Callie ROBERTS, John ROBERTS.
I would like to contact someone who descends from these children. They lived in Chattanooga TN in 1886. I descend from Lucinda Hord Raby.
Thank you, Donald Raby - efraby@att.net
