Our Grandfather, Charles Cabe, born 18 Jul 1896 was said to have been originally from Chattanooga and then moved to Craighead County, Arkansas (did't everybody move to Arkansas?). He died 20+ years ago as did his wife (grandma) and his daughter, (Mom). There is nobody left to ask questions. Can you help???

I am looking for information on the family of Andrew A. CRAIG
of Chattanooga (Hamilton Co.) Andrew CRAIG was my g-great
grandfather. I know he came over from Scotland perhaps in the
1880's. He had three children that I know about, Mary Ann CRAIG
(my great grandmother), A.A. CRAIG, and Elizabeth CRAIG.
Mary Ann married Rufus Manley PHIPPS in 1899 and moved to Memphis
soon after. I'm trying to find out Andrew's wife's name and dates
of their deaths. I am told they are buried in Chattanooga but
don't know where or when. Any help will be great, I've been up

CANIPE. JOHN KENNEDY and his brothers SAM KENNEDY work as a clerk
at LOVEMAN's in Chattanooga. His brother LEM KENNEDY not only work
as a clerk at Loveman's, but was also know as Prof Lem Kennedy, a
ventriloquist (possible md to Mary Well and they work the minor
vaudvillian circuit, That is family lore) If you have any thing on the
Kennedy boys. father name was Robert (R.L.) Kennedy of Jasper TN.
The CANIPES I am looking for are Joseph C. Canipe and John Wesley
Canipe. I don't know for sure if these boys were clerks or work maintiance
work as their father did or was bricklayers. Father to these boys were

I am looking for my grandparents Rufus Tecumseh Bryson, born in NC and settled in Chattanooga. He was born circa 1882 and he died in 1948,in Chattanooga. He was married to Minerva Mae Yates from Somerset,Ky. Minerva was born in 1896 and died in 1972 in Chattanooga. Minerva's mother was Mollie Yates. Mollie is said to be a full-bloodied Cherokee(no evidence) Mollie died in in 1957 as a Mollie Waters, have no evidence that Mollie was ever married to a John W. Yates(minerva's dad) or to a Jessie Waters. Mollie is also buried in Chattanooga. any help waould be appreciated. Thanks

My grandfather Fred. E. Williams was born in Chattanooga in the late 1800s. It is said that his father Harry R. Williams - very ill - had brought his family to the area to be nursed by his brother. The name of the brother who was a doctor is not definite but is possibly Dr. Robert Williams, born about 1836, Charles T. Williams born about 1845 or Edgar Williams born about 1847.
Does anyone recognize either of these names as a doctor practicing in the Chattanooga area in the late 1800s?
These men were sons of Dr. William M. and Evalina [Beale} Williams of Richmond Co GA. I have much information on this Williams family.

The hospital was known to be open in the 1910's, and Otis is listed as still living in the city in 1933 per an obit of his brother. Otis was the brother of my grandfather Phil C. RUFUS and CORA moved to or close to Canton, GA. Then later moved to Pembroke,GA.Don't have any dates on these moves but CORA passed away in December of 1929 in Pembroke. It's possible that they were always in Georgia just real close to Chattanooga.

Requesting any information regarding my gg grandfather Robert L.
BAIN who was in the Hamilton County, Chattanooga area in the
early 1820's. He was migrating with his parents, Alexander and
Margaret BAIN, along with other brothers and sisters, and possibly
uncles. They continued on the TN River to Marshall County, AL.
Robert's wife was listed only as Elizabeth, but in a later
Marshall County census after his death a Mary Smith from TN was
listed as a household member. It is thought she may have been
Elizabeth's mother. Robert was born in Cabarrus County NC and
died about 1850. His children are all accounted for, but info
on him and Elizabeth is sketchy. I would appreciate any information
anyone might have regarding this.

My father was Grover Franklin Durham b. Dec. 25,1910,in Chattanooga. He was killed in an automobile accident in Florida in about 1950-52. His body was returned to Chattanooga for burial. I need to know exactly when he died so that I can get records from Florida. I have written every Funeral Home, and Graveyard in Chattanooga and out of the ones that responded he was not located. There must be an obituary in the library.

I am trying to find information about Rachel Elledge, a widow,
with many children on the 1830 Hamilton Co., TN census records.
I would like to know if there are any land, birth, death,
marriage or probate records for this Rachel or for her marriage
as a second marriage. I suppose her husband, unknown, died
before 1830. She likely married before 1840 because I did not
find her on that census. By then, however, she may have had
children old enough to be of records as Elledge themselves, so
any Elledges in the 1830-1860 period would be helpful.

Peter Bolton was born Feb. 29, 1822. He lived the greater part of his life in Hamilton County in and around Sale Creek. He was a farmer and prosperous merhcant and a leading citizen. He served as justice of peace and was a member of the Hamilton County Court for 36 years. It is said that the county schools closed when he died in 1908. I would like to gather as much information as possible about him. Please give me some hints about where this information is at.

Am trying to locate descendents of Dr. William B. WELLS and Mary (Mollie) POPE. William B. WELLS was born CA 1838 in Habersham Co., GA, the son of John and Polly (Stewart) WELLS. He married Mollie POPE in 1869, probably in GA. They had 4 children.

Dr. William B. WELLS studied medicine with Dr. Adam Clements in 1860, probably in Walker Co., GA. He practiced his trade during the Civil War as an Assistant Surgeon with the Eigth Georgia Battalion. After the war, he practiced medicine in Red Clay, GA for a time. He returned to medical school, graduating from the Atlanta Medical College. In later years he practiced in Chattanooga, TN. He died CA 1892 in Chattanooga. Mollie died around 1912.
William B. WELLS is not a direct ancestor of mine, but a brother to my direct ancestor, John. I have quite a bit of information on him along with a picture that I would like to share with his descendents. Any information would be greatly appreciated

I recently received a copy of a composition that was written by my Great Grandmother in 1870. She was fourteen years old at the time. It is my understanding that the composition was printed in The Times in Chattanooga twice. On the copy that I have it is signed Julia Patten Dogwood Academy 1870. I am looking for information about my great grandparents, William B. LEWIS, who died in 1931 on 12th Street, Chattanooga, and Nancy Eveline FERGUSON LEWIS, who died in August 24, 1944, 12st Street, Chattanooga.
They were from Valley Head, DeKalb County, Alabama, where they are buried. They were married on October 21, 1899.
Their son was John Paul LEWIS, born October 25, 1900, in Valley Head, DeKalb County, Alabama. He died May 22, 1960, Peachtree Street, Chattanooga, and is buried there.
J.P. was my grandfather.
I would like to know who William and Nancy's parents were.

The 1860 census for Hamilton Co.,TN (Chattanooga ?) has the family of R. M. BELVIN listed with wife Elizabeth (GASTRY ?)and seven of their children. One daughter, Margaret, age 15 in 1860, moved to Hamilton Co.,IL and married John Hardesty (these were GGG Grandparents of mine) in 1867. There were some BELVINS in the IL infantry and cavalry from Hamilton Co.,IL which leads one to believe that several family members migrated to Hamilton Co.,IL. If anyone would have any information, names, dates, etc. about any of the TN BELVINS from Hamilton Co. and how they were related and where they came from (North Carolina ?), I would very much like to hear from you.
Other children of R.M. BELVIN were: Zarelda, James, Elizabeth, Jane, Jesse and Johnathan. Two other Belvin families in 1860 headed by Franklin BELVIN and Rueben BELVIN may have been the elder sons of R.M. BELVIN.
Just in case someone may suspect that the name might be "BLEVINS" instead of "BELVIN", it is not.

Rumor has it that Clarence BERRY married Ruby ROSE after the birth of their daughter, Nada Kathleen BERRY,
sometime around 1951-52 and that he was found dead in Soddy Lake sometime in 1952. I cannot find an obituary, this is only a story that has been in the family for years. Clarence's mother's name was Betty, and he had at least one sister. Nada's birth certificate says Clarence was born in Athens, TN. Any information appreciated.
