A new book, Cantwell/Greene Families of East Tennessee, is coming in Spring 1999. It deals primarily with the Hancock County families descended from David CANTWELL and Mary "Polly" (GREENE) CANTWELL. Since two of their daughters married GREENEs, two married SEALs, one a PERRY, and one married a CARR, it promises to be an unprecedented resource concerning all of these families -- as well as the DRINNONs. The author, Hallie Price Garner, grew up in the area she writes about and, after traveling abroad and around the States during her 25-year teaching career, spent her time since continuing her research of Hawkins and Hancock County families. Many of us researching those families are grateful for her many publications in trade print, in county histories, and on the web that reflect not only her "down home" insights but also her academic background.

For details and instructions for pre-ordering (and getting a 20% discount for doing so), e-mail Hallie Price Garner (

Greenlee (mother)living in the home of S.F. and Malisa Greenlee, adult child and wife of J.S. Greenlee. I believe this is probably her, but I would like to know what these initials stand for and where J.S.'s husband was.
I would also like to hear from anyone that can confirm this E. Greenlees Effie, or knows anything more of the family. There were two othersons listed (brothers of E. Greenlee) as O. (age 3), and P. (age 6 months). If anyone knows anything of these Greenlees, please tell me what you know. Thanks.

Seeking information on Alexander DAVIS and wife Mary GOUGER who lived in Hancock County, TN. Alex was the son of Joshua DAVIS. Their kids married into PEARSON family, ELROD family and possibly LAWSON family.
Son Washington may have married Jane LAWSON about 1851. Jane divorced Wash and remarried a John PERKEY or PARKEY. Wash moved to Christian County, MO. Henry HODGES from Hancock County moved to Christian County also. DEVAULT family also related to both DAVIS and HODGES lines. GIDEON family moved to MO. at same time as Wash Davis and were neighbors. Seeking any information on any of the lines names above, or anyone researching a Hancock Co. family that moved to Christian or Stone Counties, Missouri from 1850-1875.
