East TN Historical Society
The East Tennessee Historical Society, founded in 1834, is one of the
oldest cultural institutions in Tennessee. The Society is located in downtown
Knoxville in the East Tennessee Historical Center, the "Old Custom House."
Built in 1874, the Custom House, located at 600 Market Street at the corner
of Market Street and Clinch Avenue, also houses the Knox County Archives,
the McClung Historical Collection, and the Sons of the American Revolution,
making it a true "center" for East Tennessee's history.
