This CD contains several files associaated with transcripts of deed documents taken from some of the Hawkins County County Court records of deeds prepared in the period preceeding and including 1860. There are 95 deed transcripts included. Also included are a listing of all the deed titles, an index of all of the names mentioned in the deeds, and a similar index of all of the place names mentioned in the deeds.

All of the transcripts were taken from handwritten documents from the court files. Some of the documents seemed to be the original deed signed by the deeding person, and some were obviously copies of the original deeds. The transcripts are as faithful to the original as possible and include the spelling and usage of the original. There were times that a word or phrase in the document could not be deciphered. In those cases if a reasonable guess as to the word could be made the guess is shown in italics. If undecipheable the word position is shown as ___. This substitution was also used when there were holes in the documents.
