•A revised edition of the Harrison Funeral Home Burial Records has been completed. It covers records from September 6, 1930 to October 16, 1931 and January 4, 1935 to September 23, 1942. We have included 493 burial records not previously published. Data (if available) includes: name, date of death, place of death, date of birth, place of birth, spouse, father, father’s birthplace, mother, mother’s birthplace, informant, cemetery. This revised book now covers 1,418 burials, 252 pages, softbound, and last name index with as much information as possible derived from the service books. The original service books from October 17, 1931 to January 3, 1935 were lost or destroyed over the years, and therefore the information from this period is not included in this new book. $16.00 plus $3.95 shipping & handling. •Melungeons And Other Pioneer Familes written and published by Jack Goins (HCG&HS member), is a fact-filled book about early Melungeon families and their neighbors and documents their history from Hancock County back to North Carolina and Virginia. Many family stories on the Goins and Minor families are sprinkled throughout adding additional information in special sections on the Arrington, Bledsoe, England, Fisher, Hurd, Johnsons, Lawson, Riddle, Roller, Vanzant, and Wallen families. A substantial chapter deals with the Sizemores and the real story of "Wild Bill" Sizemore (1833-1867). •Hawkins County Genealogical & Historical Society was the first recipient of the East Tennessee Historical Society's Affiliate Society Award on May 5, 1998. The award was given to HCG&HS for their work in preserving, promoting, and interpreting the history of East Tennessee, especially Hawkins County. A certificate was given to the Society at an awards banquet the same night. |
