Events Past and Present

This page will give you an idea of what we do at our meetings, but it isn't everything - so check back frequently.

Who decides what we do? What projects we work on? What contests we participate in as a group, or personally submit entries?

Ultimately, the membership is encouraged to make suggestions, voice personal interests, start new projects, and participate in local, state, and national contests that are in line with the mission and goals of The Children of the American Revolution.

What are these projects and contests about? We're all about God, Home and Country!

Our Society leaders (mentored by Senior Leaders who are adults) are children who have committed themselves to take an active role in our Society responsibilities, decision making and planning.

We strive to promote positive values and a sense of pride in our country.

From our National website (www.nscar.org): "Members gain invaluable leadership experience in conducting meetings, following parliamentary procedures and standard protocol, serving as delegates and speaking before groups at local, state and national conferences. The responsibility and privilege of selecting officers helps members gain an understanding of the democratic process".

Senior Leadership is provided by the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), the organization that first saw the need for a children's society to foster love of country, patriotism and good citizenship.

Some highlights of this year: we took our kids to a Chili Cook Off to benefit the Youth of Christ United Methodist Church, had a membership drive at a Trinity Christian Academy Homeschool Cooperative and spoke to the families of the Halls Home School Cooperative.

Summer 2005
July 4th
James White Fort

The Isaac Anderson Kids participate in a celebration of our nation's
independence and remember the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

We anxiously await our "packet" of new contests and projects, and then plan our year.

Fall 2005
We help our prospective members with a fun, educational day of genealogical research and hands-on
assistance with completion of their application. Contact us if you'd like an invitation or help identifying an eligible ancestor.

The Isaac Anderson Society has purchased a "London Gazette" from 1770 to donate to our Society.
Come and see this piece of history at one of our meetings, before it's too late!

On Monday, Oct. 10, at 7 pm, we will be meeting in the conference room at Christ United Methodist
Church on Maynardville Highway to plan for the year, pass out copies of the packet, if needed, and
update everyone on our progress!

Please let me know if you will be able to attend any
of our events by calling (865) 925-0254 or

Upcoming Events:

On Oct. 8th, I will be doing a program on C.A.R. for the Cavett Station Chapter of DAR. If you
have any points you'd like to mention, ideas to increase participation or future cooperative
projects, let me know!

On Oct. 12th, at 9:30 a.m., we will be touring the Ramsey House Plantation with a local home school
co op. The event will start with a presentation by C.A.R. representatives and information about
being a member of C.A.R. They will then see a short movie about Ramsey House, followed by a tour
and a demonstration of how they dipped candles. Cost is $5.00 for children, and free for adults.
Thanks to the homeschool representative, Mrs. Lorrie Durham, for coordinating this event with the
Trinity Chapel Training Center kids.

Please note this date has changed due to staffing issues at Ramsey House. The original date was
Oct. 4, but they have informed Mrs. Durham that they will not be at full staff every day. My appologies
for any inconvenience.

On Oct. 16th, at 12 noon, we will be participating in a "Chili Cook Off" at Christ United Methodist
Church. Our C.A.R. team will serve up our delicious secret recipe chili(s) and be available to
educate the community about the C.A.R. The children present will help young participants make
Thanksgiving Cards for Meals on Wheels at our craft table. Plan to be at the church by 11 a.m. to
help set up our table.

Mark your calendars and make plans to join us, because it won't be the same without you!

I've cc'd some of our friends in the DAR and prospective member families to let them know what we
have planned for the Isaac Anderson Society this month. If you know of anyone you'd like to see
on our "cc" list, let me know.

Kindest regards,
