Some Divorces From Carter County:

(These were among records in my personal research, However I have no further info on these particular families).

Vaughn, Rachel:  Petitioned for divorce in 1832.  Wife of T. Vaughn, of Carter County, is granted the privileges of a femme sole.  Acts of TN, 1832.

Vernoy, Sarah:  Petitioned for divorce 31 Aug 1829.  Formerly known as Sarah Wagner. In 1825, Peter Vernoy, a citizen of Kentucky visited her, a citizen of Carter County, at her father's home.  They were married December 1825.  She and her possessions were taken to Kentucky by Peter. He treated her cruelly and spent what property she had.  He also drank a lot.  He kept and supported in the neighborhood several loose women.  She found out he had already been married and divorced.  He became intimate again with his ex-wife and she had a child which she said was his.  Another female also charged him with being the father of her child, born after the marriage of Peter and Sarah.  Sarah had a child and took the child and fled to her father's house in Carter Co. and has there since remained.  Acts of TN, 1829.

Grace, David:  Petitioned 1809.  The marriage bonds between David and his wife, Elizabeth Grace, formerly of Carter Co, are hereby dissolved.  Acts of TN, 1809.
