THE HITCH FAMILY FROM MD TO BLOUNT CO.,TN 

Christopher Hitch born about 1728 in King George Parish, MD and died
about 1805 probably in Farquier, VA.  His wife's name was Rebecca.  His
children were:  (An * in front of the name means that this line will
follow.)

1.  Lucy Hitch married James Harris 1-15-1803. Do not know date of birth
or where Lucy or Nellie fits in line of children.  Left a bed and
furniture plus her choice of a cow and a calf and two sheep in his will.

2.  Nellie Hitch married Joseph Heaton 1-2-1815.  She was left a a bed
and furniture, one cow and calf and two sheep.
3.  Nathan Hitch born about 1766 and died about 1817.  He married Anne
Burgess on 1-27-1791.
4.  Susannah Hitch born about 1768 and married Edward Smoot 6-12-1788 in
Farquier Co, VA.
*5.  Archibald Hitch born about 1770 and married Mary "Polly" Harris.
Came to Blount Co., TN in the 1820's.
6.  Wiseman Hitch born about 1777 married Nancy Williams 9-24-1797.
7.  Rebecca Hitch born about 1778 married Samuel Arnold on 9-21-1798.
Left her choice of a cow and a calf in his will.
8.  Sally Hitch born about 1779 married Humphrey Arnold on 4-19-1798.
9.  Peggy Hitch born about 1780 and married John Smoot on 12-12-1802.
10.  Lloyd Hitch born about 1781 and married Harriett Greenwood in
Kentucky.  Later came to Grainger Co.  Left 1/3 interest in his land in
his will plus a colt.
*11.  Eleven Hitch born 1782 and died 2-5-1837.  Buried on the Hitch
farm in Alcoa, TN.  (Surrounded by Maryville)  He married Lucinda Harris
on 12-12-1802.  Left 1/3 interest in his land in Christopher's will.
12.  John Hitch born about 1785 and married Milly Greenwood on
1-19-1801.
13.  Dorcas (Darky) Hitch born about 1789 and married Joseph Harris
9-21-1809.  Left a bed and furniture, one cow and a calf in his will.
*14.  Elias Hitch born about 1790 and married 4-10-1812 to Nancy
Kirrick.  Left 1/3 interest in his land by his father plus a colt.
15  Ariett Hitch (Some records disagree on her real name.  Some say
Mariah.)  born about 1791 and married to Henry Hawkins Downing on 1-25-1811.
Left her choice of horse in her father's will.  Also a bed and
furniture, one cow and a calf, and 2 sheep.

He left Nathan, John, Wiseman, Archibald, Susan, Peggy, Sally Becky, and
Lucy five pounds to be paid nine months after his death.  He also left
the rest of his estate to Eleven, Elias, Lloyd, Ariett, Nelly, and Darky.

Three of Christopher Hitch's sons came to Blount Co. TN and one came to
Grainger Co.  As far as we know they were all born and married in
Virginia.

ELEVEN HITCH

Born 1782 VA and died 2-5-1837.  He is buried inside a block wall with
his wife Lucinda and two other people on the old Hitch Farm just beside
the road.  He married Lucinda Harris on 12-12-1802.  She was born 1783
and died 1857.  Their children are:

1.  Mary Hannah Hitch married a Johnson.
2.  Wise Hitch born 9-2-1803 married Polly Shook on 12-26-1822 in Blount
Co.
3.  Ann Hitch born 8-13-1805 and died 1-28-1864.  Buried Clover Hill
Presbyterian Churchyard in Maryville.  Married Josiah Graston on
11-25-1825.
4.  Catherine Hitch born 4-14-1808 married William Graston in Blount Co.
on  10-24-1832                                         .
5.  Mary J. "Polly" Hitch born 8-8-1810 and married to Wayne Gideons.
6.  John Hitch born 8-24-1812.  Moved to Indiana.
7.  Susan Hitch born 2-14-1814 and married William Payne on 3-21-1837.
8.  Benjamin Hitch born 10-5-1816 and is buried at the old Hitch farm.
He married Eliza Jones 9-22-1836.
9.  Margaret Hitch born 9-24-1818 married to a Mr. Scott.
10.  Eleven Hitch born 10-1820.  He was retarded and is buried on the
old Hitch farm.
11.  Archibald Hitch born 8-15-1823 and died 6-26-1888.  He is buried at
Clark's Grove Cemetery in Maryville.  He married Elizabeth Evelene Kidd
on 11-6-1851.
12.  Elias Hitch born 3-1825.  Married first Matilda Sharp and 2nd Mary
Hitch.
13.  James Wilson Hitch, 1.  born 12-20-1828 and died 6-10-1896 and is
buried Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Maryville.  He married Ellen Harris on
7-10-1853.

ARCHIBALD HITCH

Born about 1770 in VA and married Mary "Polly" Harris on 1-20-1801.
Mary was born 1775.  Their children are:

1.  Rebecca Hitch born about 1807 and married Addison Sharp on
12-27-1821.  She evidently married 2nd to James Mitchell.
2.  Margaret "Peggy" Hitch born about 1802 and married to John Flenniken
Dearmond on 9-14-1826.
3.  Susan Hitch born 2-20-1804 and died 11-20-1869.  She was the second
wife of Rev. William Billue.
4.  Cynthia Hitch born 5-14-1809 and died 8-24-1873.  She married
Richard Dearmond on 2-10-1831.  Both are buried Clark's Grove Cemetery
in Maryville.
5.  Scythia Hitch (questionable.  Could not read) born about 1812 and
died 10-20-1865.  Married Andrew Franklin Hanna on 11-7-1833.  Buried
Forest Hill Cemetery.
6.  Elias (Bear) Hitch born 11-24-1814 and died 1-2-1902.  Married
Apoliza Jane Lawson Billue on 1-2-1840.

ELIAS HITCH

Elias born about 1790 married Nancy Kirrick on 4-10-1812.  Their
children are:

1.  Kirrick Hitch.  Do not have dates for him but he burned to death
after the family moved to Illinois.
2.  Martha Hitch married John singleton on 5-5-1857
3.  Mary J. Hitch married Wayne Gideon on 7-15-1833
4.  Margaret Kirrick Hitch born 9-7-1819 and died 11-24-1889.  Married
William Goddard on 11-7-1837.
5.  Steven K. Hitch born 10-1829 and died 11-1907 and is buried Clark's
Grove.  Married Charlotte Adeline Louisa George on 9-16-1849.
6.  Nancy Hitch born 1-18-1832 and died 1-1-1882.  Married Isaac
Anderson McCulley on 11-12-1852.

The Hitch family descendants still reside in Blount Co. and Knox Co. in
large numbers.  I will answer specific questions about the other
