National Cemetery

The Cemetery is located at 939 Tyson Street, NW. This is in the back of the Old Gray Cemetery. Union Major General Ambrose Burnside established this cemetery during the Civil War. There are over 9,000 internments. These are not just from the Civil War, as this continued to be the only cemetery for Veterans in Knoxville until the establishment of the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at 5901 Lyons View Pike. The Knoxville National Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
