Mary Marney East, 76, of the Bugtussle Community, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at her residence. She was born Wednesday, October 31, 1928, in Kingston, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Gillis and Hazel Marney. She was a homemaker, a member of Corinth Church of Christ, and wife of the late Sam H. East. She is survived by a son, Charles Floyd East and his wife Asonia Fogarty, of St. Helens, Oregon; a brother that she raised, Don Marney, Olympia, Washington; 11 grandchildren, Robert East, Dean East, Melinda "Penny" East, Mary East, Dale and Loretta Strong, Mikki and Steve Perry, Jack Marney, Bobby Marney, Jim Marney, Shannon Fogarty, and Jim Fogarty. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister that she raised, James Marney, Bob Marney, and Marie Marney, and two grandchildren, Richard Strong and Roger Strong. Funeral services for Mary Marney East were conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 1, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Dewayne Fox officiating. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Chris Trent, Marty Blankenship, Royce Dyer, Bryan Dyer, Josh Strong, and Jim Marney. Honorary pallbearers were Travis Cothron and Robert East. Funeral services for Pauline Copas Bean, age 79, of the Leonard Community in Clay County, TN were conducted Tuesday afternoon, October 4, 2005, 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Jimmy Cook officiating. Interment followed in the Leonard Cemetery. Her family and friends served as pallbearers.
Annie Lou Brawner, 87, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away early Sunday morning, September 25, 2005 at her daughter's residence in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Wednesday, January 30, 1918, a daughter of the late Joseph Deering and Laura White Deering. She was a homemaker and member of Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church. She was married to Sidney Hauskins, who preceded her in death in 1962. Later she was married to Earl Brawner, and he also preceded her in death. She is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Selma Lee Todd Meador and her husband, Judson, of the Hillsdale Community; Mary Lou White and her husband, Douglas, Gallatin, TN; 2 step-sons, Bobby Brawner and Billy Brawner, 2 step-daughters, Shelby Wagoner and Polly Holder, all of Lafayette, TN; 2 brothers, Marion Deering, Lafayette, TN; Sam Jackson Deering, Hartsville, TN; a sister, Estelle White, Lafayette, TN; 7 grandchildren, Ricky Hauskins, Tammy Crook, Wynemia Cook, Shelia Lankford, Patricia Boles, Johnny Gulley, and Joyce Preston; 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Hauskins, a brother, Jesse Deering, and a step-daughter, Elizabeth Pedigo. Funeral services for Annie Lou Brawner were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church with Eld. James Ray Lawson officiating. Elizabeth Burton passed away Thursday, September 29, 2005 at Gallatin Health Care in Gallatin, TN. A native of Trousdale County, she was the daughter of the late Willie & Mary Earps Uhles. She married Cecil Vance Burton on December 28, 1940 who preceded her in death on December 30, 1996. She was preceded in death by brothers Claude, Ray, & Horace Uhles, and half brother, Carl Uhles. Elizabeth was a homemaker and a member of the Dixon Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include: sons & daughters-in-law Wayne & Patricia, Gallatin, TN, Ricky & Paula of Lafayette, TN; half sister Mary Dee Shepherd of Gallatin, TN; grandsons Richard & Anthony Burton of Lafayette, TN; step-granddaughter Michelle Spears of Gallatin, TN, and step grandson Dale Shoulders of Hartsville, TN. Graveside services for W.C. Gregory, age 74, of the Kirbytown Community, Lafayette, TN were conducted on Monday, October 3, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from the Phillip Anderson & Son Memorial Park in Lafayette with Elder Michael Brawner officiating. Mr. Gregory passed away Saturday afternoon, October 1, 2005 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, TN. A native of Macon County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late HOmer and Ruby Parker Gregory. He was a member of the Union Camp Missionary Baptist Church, a farmer, a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was inducted into the Macon County Sports Hall of Fame. Smith L. Holland, 67, of the Galen Community, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Saturday, October 16, 1937 a son of the late Elmer Ray Holland and Hassie Carter Holland. He was a retired lumber grader and inspector for Lafayette Manufacturing and a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. He was united in marriage to Virginia Ruth Meador Holland. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Holland, of the Galen Community; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Michael Rigsby, Signal Mountain, TN; a son, Danny Holland, of the Galen Community; 2 brothers, Truman Holland and J. W. Holland, both of the Galen Community; 4 sisters, Mary Andrews, of the Williams Community; Irene Seals and Aulene Bakken, both of Gallatin, TN; and Debbie Durbin, Brownsville, KY; 3 grandchildren, Kattie Holland, Josh Holland, and Amber Burrow. Funeral services for J.T. McCue, age 81, of Fairdale, KY, were conducted Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Willette Church of Christ in Red Boiling Springs. Interment followed in the Thomas Cemetery. Mr. McCue passed October 1, 2005, at Hurstbourne Health Care in Fairdale, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ola T. McCue. He was a retired oiler for the old International Harvester Company and an Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include: a daughter, Ann Reed; three sons: Alton, Jimmy and David McCue; sisters: Georgie D. Bailey and Roxie L. Edwards; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Martina Smith Nelson, 52, of Dayton, Tennessee, and formerly of Lafayette, TN, passed away Monday, September 26, 2005. She was a charter member of The Father's House.
She is survived by her husband, Scott Nelson, of Dayton, TN; 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, Jeff and Karen Murray; Duane Murray; Josh and Kim Nelson, all of Sweetwater, TN; Ben and Annaliese Murray, Cullman, Alabama; 2 grandchildren, Shawna and Amber Murray; her mother, Gracie Smith, of Lafayette, TN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Ronald Brooks, of Russell Hill Community; Betty and Wayne Wilkerson, of Lafayette, TN; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Gennie Smith, Lebanon, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Murray, her father, Corbin Smith and a sister, Carolyn Smith. Danny Lee Napier, 56, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Monday, September 26, 2005 at his residence. The Leslie County, Kentucky native was a self-employed mechanic and an Army Veteran of the Viet Nam War. In January 1970 he was united in marriage to Erma Dean Napier. He is survived by his wife, Erma Dean Napier, of Lafayette, TN; 2 daughters, Juwanna Lee Napier Green and Sherry Lundy, both of Indianapolis, IN; a son, Jason Napier, Lafayette, TN; his mother, Opal Napier, Lafayette, TN; 5 brothers, Larry Hardman, Gary Hardman, Manuel Hardman, and Donnie Napier, all of Lafayette, TN; and George Hardman, Indianapolis, IN; 6 sisters, Joann Begley, Virginia Munden, Roberta George, and Gloria Hardman, all of Indianapolis, IN; Jonnie Wilson and Brenda Kay Kinnick, both of Lafayette, TN; 5 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Friday, January 15, 1932, a daughter of the late Coy Wooten and Gracie Perdue Wooten, and was a retired office worker. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and John McKee, Greenwood, IN: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff and Karen Whitson, Bainbridge, IN; and Ron Whitson, Russellville, IN; a sister and brother-in-law, Berdine and Tilmon Perdue, of the Underwood Community, and 5 grandchildren.
