R. V. Barnfield, 79, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Tuesday, February 2, 1926, a son of the late Luster O. Barnfield and Viola Ellis Barnfield. He was retired from the Macon County Sheriff's Department and was a member of Old Beech Bottom Missionary Baptist Church. On October 19, 1946, he was united in marriage to Willie Helen Pirtle Barnfield, who preceded him in death on May 5, 2001.  He is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Paulette and Ray Mason; Claudette and Rick Fuqua; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Norma Barnfield; J. B. and Mary Lou Barnfield, all of Lafayette, TN; 2 grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Kyle Mason; Jeff and Misty Fuqua; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Lorell Gann, Laura Ballou, and Opal Dickens, and 2 brothers, Cordell Barnfield and Donald Barnfield.  Funeral services for R. V. Barnfield were conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Jeff Blackwell officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Hal Ballou, Paul Ballou, Ben Ballou, Billy Barnfield, Jr., Jerry Barnfield, and Lillard Gregory. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Phillips, The Rook Players, Sheriff Joe Ferguson, and members of the Macon County Sheriff's Department.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

David Lee Gregory, age 30, of W. Stinson Road in Westmore-land, TN, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2005.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, 2 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home conducted by Doyle Farris. Interment was in Siloam Cemetery.  He was the son of Roger Dale Gregory and Deborah Ann Davis Gregory, both of Westmoreland.  Survivors besides his parents include sons, Austin & Bruce Gregory of Westmoreland; maternal grandmother, Morean Davis of Red Boiling Springs; paternal grandmother, Florine Gregory of Westmoreland; special friend: Bobette Wasson of Westmoreland; sister, Patricia Marshall of Westmoreland.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

 

John Carter Hamsley, 70, of Chickamauga, Georgia, and a former resident of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005 in Chickamauga. He retired from Georgia Natural Gas after 35 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Crawfish Springs Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hamsley was preceded in death by his father, William Carter Hamsley, and brother, Thomas Gilbert Hamsley.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Lou Snider Hamsley, of Chickamauga, Georgia; his mother, Azalea (Thurman) Hamsley, of Pulaski, TN; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Hamsley, Chattanooga, TN; Timmothy Hamsley, Kensington, Georgia; a sister, Doretha Turner, Frankewing, TN; 3 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at J. Avery Bryan Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home in Chickamauga, Georgia with Rev. Alan Goolsby officiating. Following the funeral services in Georgia, the body was moved to the Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, Tennessee for visitation. Graveside Masonic Services were conducted at 2:30 PM Thursday at the New Bethel Cemetery.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

 

Hattie Roalin Holman, 95, of the Oakdale Community, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Monday, November 22, 1909, a daughter of the late Jesse and Laura Roalin. She was a homemaker and member of Oakdale General Baptist Church. On September 20, 1927 she was united in marriage to Thomas Estell Holman, who preceded her in death on October 30, 1987.  She is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie and Dot Holman, Indianapolis, Indiana; Ray and Ann Holman, Rainbow City, Alabama; Billy and Raydell Holman, Scottsville, KY; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Earlene Claiborne; Shirley and Donald Brawner, all of the Oakdale Community; Rulene and Jerry Brown, Westmoreland, TN; a daughter-in-law, Agalene Holman, of the Oakdale Community; 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Earl Holman, a daughter, Velma Rittenberry, 2 sons-in-law, James Claiborne and Edward Rittenberry, 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 6 brothers and 6 sisters.  Funeral services for Hattie Roalin Holman were conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at Oakdale General Baptist Church with Rev. Carlene Kirby and Rev. Earl Meador officiating. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery. Juanita Butrum Jent, 87, a resident of Westmoreland Care and Rehab in Westmoreland, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Westmoreland Care and Rehab. The Allen County, Kentucky native was born Saturday, September 15, 1927, a daughter of the late Herston Butrum and Cammie Jones Butrum. She was a homemaker, a member of Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Allen County, and was married to Ollie Jent who preceded her in death on June 4, 2005.  She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Jervis and Barbara Bradley, Lafayette, TN; Jerry and Wilma Bradley, Portland, TN; 7 grandchildren, Angela Harrison, Cammie West, Jerry Bradley, Jr., Nelson Bradley, Jackie Bradley, Steve Bradley, and Jimmy Bradley, and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Forest Butrum.  Funeral services for Juanita Butrum Jent were conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, September 9, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Joe Tom Stinson officiating. Burial was in the Red Hill Cemetery. Bro. L. E. Merritt, 83, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Monday, September 5, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Friday, November 4, 1921, a son of the late Frank Merritt and Lummie Adams Merritt. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, a Missionary Baptist minister, a member of Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church, a retired painter and truck driver. On August 5, 1950, he was united in marriage to Pluma Lonas Merritt, who survives.  He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Pluma Merritt, of Lafayette, TN; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Joe H. York, Red Boiling Springs, TN; Peggy and Ralph Patterson, of the Drapers Crossroads Community; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Evie Merritt; Billy and Lynn Merritt, all of Lafayette, TN; a brother, Rickmond Merritt, Lafayette, TN; 2 sisters, Earnesteen Reeves, Lenoir City, TN; and Nadine Reeves, Lafayette, TN; 8 grandchildren, Christy Stafford, Brandy White, Jimmy Allen Merritt, Christopher York, Tracy Cooper, Tina Merritt, Scotty Gass, and Beth Merritt; and 4 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services for Bro. L. E. Merritt were conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Jones and Eld. Thomas Earl Roark officiating. Burial was in Drury Cemetery. James Wesley Seagraves, 66, of the Sundial Community, passed away Monday, September 5, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Monday, July 10, 1939, a son of the late Fred Seagraves and Edna Steen Seagraves, and was a retired truck driver. On March 9, 1963, he was united in marriage to Hollis Jones Seagraves.  He is survived by his wife, Hollis Seagraves, of the Sundial Community; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Kay and Bobby Howard Bandy, of the Maple Grove Community; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Marty and Amanda Seagraves, of the Maple Grove Community; James Greg and Sandra Seagraves, of Herrin, Illinois; 7 grandchildren, Eric Bandy, Hayley Seagraves, Peyton Seagraves, Jaden Seagraves, Kedan Seagraves, Anthony Seagraves, and MaKalee Seagraves.  Funeral services for James Wesley Seagraves were conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Cothron and Eld. Floyd Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Loyal Lee Shaw, 71, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Monday, October 23, 1933, a son of the late Roy F. Shaw and Lassie Lorene Carter Shaw. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, and retired from Lafayette Manufacturing in 1996, where he worked for over 37 years. On January 17, 1959 he was united in marriage to Wilma Perrigo Shaw.  He is survived by his wife, Wilma Perrigo Shaw, of Lafayette, TN; a son and daughter-in-law, Kelvin and Lynette Shaw, a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Billy Centers, a son, Loyd Shaw and friend, Sherry Bransford; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Paul Blankenship; granddaughters, Andrea Cook, Jennifer Bell and Tabitha Coffee; grandson, Joshua Shaw; one great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Warden Gene Shaw.  Funeral services for Loyal Lee Shaw were conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, September 9, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Barry Brawner officiating. Burial was in Galen Cemetery. Jack L. Shreeve, age 69, of Oakwood Drive, Westmoreland, TN, passed away Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005.  Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, 10 a.m. at Providence Cemetery.  He was the son of the late Lacy Allen Shreeve, Jr. and Vera Lee Campbell Shreeve.  He is survived by a daughter, Lynn Massey of Hurrican Mills, TN; brothers, Edward (Buddy) & Carolyn Shreeve of Hendersonville, Lacy & Alberta Shreeve of Stark, LA, Jerry & Darlene Shreeve Moore of South Carolina; sister, Evelyn & Lyle Cook of Westmoreland, Bett & Billy Collins of Antioch, TN; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

 

Audrey Walton, 97, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born January 12, 1908, a daughter of the late Johnnie Ford and Matilda Katherine Fuqua Ford. She was a member of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church and formerly owned a grocery store in Lafayette with her late husband, Roy Walton. She was united in marriage on May 1, 1926 to Roy Walton, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1982.  She is survived by a sister, Alice Hire, Lafayette, TN; special friends, Willard and Hilda Smith, Cheryl Shoulders, Janet and Kenny Evetts, Bobbye and Wendle Brawner, all of Lafayette, TN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Ethel Ray Ford and a sister, Effie M. Price.  Funeral services for Audrey Walton were conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Don Curtis and Eld. Dean Dyer officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens.
