Mrs. Martha Armistead, age 58, of the Difficult Community, died at her Difficult Road home at Friday morning, September 23, 2005 with her family at her bedside. She had suffered from cancer for four years. Services from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. by Eld. Floyd Ferguson and Eld. Doug Curtis. Burial followed in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens. Born Martha Jean Woodard in the Buffalo Community on September 18, 1947, she was one of two daughters of Thomas Bradley and Lucy Irene Boze Woodard, who reside in the Difficult Community. She was saved at the age of 12 on October 4, 1959 and was baptized into the fellowship of the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church. On October 31, 1965, she was united in marriage to Freddie Bryan Armistead of Difficult. Mrs. Armistead was a member of the Class of 1965 of Smith County High School. Surviving in addition to her parents and husband of almost forty years are two daughters, Melissa Shoulders and husband Bruce and their children Jonathan and Jessica of Difficult, Sharon Bingham and husband Grant and their children, Sarah, Brad, and Adam, all of the Gladdice Community; sister, Becky Anderson and husband Prentice of Difficult. Funeral services for Mary Joyce Bean Baillie, age 75, of Lafayette, TN were conducted on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Sean Dozier officiating. Pallbearers were Bryan Butcher, Anthony Whittemore, Jonathan Whittemore, Frank Kauffman, Larry Long and Marty Blankenship. Interment followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park. Mrs. Baillie passed away Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, TN. A native of Clay County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Dortha Pedigo Bean. She was married to Donald Head, who preceded her in death. She later married Herbert Long, who survives. Then she remarried Hunter Quentin Baillie, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dumas Head, sister, Brenda Cole and brother, Gerald Bean. She was a former employee with Piggly Wiggly in the Deli Department in Lafayette and a member of the Hermitage Springs Church of Christ. Survivors includes daughters: Donna (Richard) Green, Hermitage Springs, Lois Bean, Lafayette, Khi Williams, New York; son: David Long, Bethpage; sister: Peggy Lisby, Indianapolis, IN; brothers: Douglas Bean, Indianapolis, IN and Bobby Bean, Denver, CO; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. Annie Lou Brawner, 87, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away early Sunday morning, September 25, 2005 at her daughter's residence in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Wednesday, January 30, 1918, a daughter of the late Joseph Deering and Laura White Deering. She was a homemaker and member of Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church. She was married to Sidney Hauskins, who preceded her in death in 1962. Later she was married to Earl Brawner, and he also preceded her in death. She is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Selma Lee Todd Meador and her husband, Judson, of the Hillsdale Community; Mary Lou White and her husband, Douglas, Gallatin, TN; 2 brothers, Marion Deering, Lafayette, TN; Sam Jackson Deering, Hartsville, TN; a sister, Estelle White, Lafayette, TN; 7 grandchildren, Ricky Hauskins, Tammy Crook, Wynemia Cook, Shelia Lankford, Patricia Boles, Johnny Gulley, and Joyce Preston; 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Hauskins, and a brother, Jesse Deering. Funeral services for Annie Lou Brawner were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church with Eld. James Ray Lawson officiating. Burial was in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronald Crook, Anthony Cook, Derrick Cook, Ricky Hauskins, Douglas Lankford, Johnny Wilson Deering, Ricky Hauskins, Jr., and Martin Boles. Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services for Fred E. Brawner, age 84, of Lafayette and formerly of the Haysville Community, were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, 2 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Rev. Guthrie Gregory officiating. Pallbearers were Glen Lawrence, Derick Newberry, David Stinson, Davis White, Merlin West, Gerald Lawrence. Interment followed in the Haysville Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Fred E. Brawner passed away Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2005 at Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN. A native of Allen County, KY, he was the son of the late Oakley and Ella Mae Bray Brawner. On Oct. 14, 1939, he was married to Elizabeth Hire, who preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 1993. He later married Shirley Rogers on Sept. 12, 1998, who survives. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Olene Shockley and his brothers, Willard and Gethroe Brawner. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, where he served on the front lines of war with his brother, Gethroe Brawner, who was killed serving his country. He was also a member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans and a farmer. Survivors besides his wife include son and daughter-in-law, Roger (Martha) Brawner, Haysville Community; grandsons, Perry and Rocky (Darla) Brawner, Hendersonville; granddaughter, Jamie Brawner, Haysville Community; three great-grandchildren; step-sons, Walter Rogers, Hermitage, Kevin (Melanie) Rogers, Kingsland, GA; step-daughter, Penny Swindle, Jacksonville, FL; five step-grandchildren. | Doris Wells Cave, 97, of West Baden, Indiana,
passed away Friday, September 16, 2005 at Paoli Health and Living Community
in Paoli, Indiana. A native of Orange County, Indiana, she was a daughter of
the late Louis A. Brown and Sarah Ida Pruett Brown. She was an accomplished
horseback rider. They enjoyed their travels to Florida, Lafayette,
Tennessee, Fort Collins, Colorado, and the West Coast. She had been a long
time employee as a desk clerk of the Old Homestead Hotel in West Baden. In
addition, she worked at the French Lick Hotel Dress Shop for many years. She
was a member of West Baden United Methodist Church, and a 1926 graduate of
Orleans High School. She was united in marriage to Ernest Wells in 1927, who
preceded her in death. Later she was married to William Cave in 1956, and he
preceded her in death in 1965. In addition to her husband and parents, she
was also preceded in death by a brother, Louie P. Brown and two sisters,
Alleyne and Harriett Brown. She is survived by sons, Rex Wells and his
wife, Margaret, Fort Collins, Colorado, Lafayette Mayor Bill Wells, and his
wife, Sally, Lafayette, TN; step-daughter, Mary June Nordhoff, Jasper,
Indiana; a niece, Anne Marie Brown Justice, Bloomington, IN; 6
grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Doris Brown Cave were conducted at 11:00 AM Monday,
September 19, 2005 at T. L. Pinnick Mortuary in French Lick, IN with Rev.
Terry L. Pinnick officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery near
Orangeville, Indiana. Pallbearers were Lafayette Police Chief Jerry Dallas,
Detective Brian Satterfield, Detective Stacy Gann, grandsons William Martin
Wells, James Michael Wells, and Paul Eric Wells. Obituary notice a

Funeral services for Carl Reese Dyer, age 75, of Nashville, formerly of Macon Co. were conducted Monday, September 26, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. from the chapel of Woodbine Funeral Home in Nashville, TN. Interment followed in McDonald Cemetery, Lafayette, TN. Carl Dyer passed away Thursday, September 22, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosie Dyer, and his step-daughter, Dimple Smith. Survivors include daughters: Kay Jones and Teresa Corbin; step-daughters: Pat (Jr.) Robertson and Shirley (Jerry) Yancey; sons: Thomas (Deb) Dyer and Bobby Dyer; sister: Barbara Jean Woodard; brothers: Bill, Hubert, C.B. and Jim Buck Dyer; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.
