Lois Atkins Anderson, 71, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2005 at Trousdale Medical Center in Hartsville, Tennessee. The Jackson County, Tennessee native was born Sunday, November 5, 1933, a daughter of the late Letcher G. Atkins and Oma E. Evans Atkins. She was a homemaker and wife of the late Winters Cordell Stewart and the late Roy Anderson.  She is survived by 2 daughters, Imojean Coulter, Lafayette, TN; Cathy Louise Pitts, Castalian Springs, TN; 2 sons, Ralph Stewart and Harold Junior Stewart, both of Lafayette, TN; 2 brothers, Sam Atkins, Red Boiling Springs, TN; Harold Atkins, Lafayette, TN; a sister, Wanda Walrond, Lafayette, TN; 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Roger Cordell Stewart, and 3 brothers, Willard Atkins, Ernest Lloyd Atkins, and Billy Joe Atkins.  Graveside services for Lois Atkins Anderson were conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at Leonard Cemetery near Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee with Bro. Tony Hopkins officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN is in charge of arrangements.

Delbert Franklin Blankenship, 81, of 356 Briarfield Road, Scottsville, KY died at 6:10 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2005, at The Medical Center at Scottsville. The Macon County, TN native was the owner of Blankenship's Vinyl Siding and Metal Roofing, a World War II Army Veteran, a member of Liberty United General Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Treasurer and song leader, a member of Halfrey Dalton VFW Post 5712, Allen County Fish and Game Club and Nashville Local 189 Carpenters and Joiners, and a former of Deacon of Garrett's Creek General Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Thomas Burch Blankenship and Mattie Lou Sadler Blankenship and husband of the late Martha Louise Witcher Blankenship.  He is survived by 3 sons: Gordon Blankenship and his wife, Reva, of Franklin, KY; Joey Blankenship and wife, Peggy, of Scottsville, KY and Mike Blankenship and wife, Peggy, of Scottsville, KY; 3 daughters: Teresa McPherson and husband, Gerald, of Russellville, KY; Mitzi Holmes and special friend, Larry W. Wix, of Westmoreland; Angela Lenz and special friend, Donovan Spencer, of Scottsville, KY; 1 brother: Douglas Blankenship, Scottsville, KY; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services for Delbert Franklin Blankenship were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Feltner, Bro. Danny Patrick, Bro. James Wheeler and Shannon McPherson officiating and burial was in Mt. Union General Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rites by Barren County Dav. Chapter #20.

Jerry Bray, 55, of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, and formerly of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2005 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Thursday, August 10, 1950, a son of the late Odell Bray and Maggie Brooks Bray. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a machine operator for Texas Boot until becoming disabled. He was married to Peggy Donoho Kemp Bray, who preceded him in death on March 2, 1999.  He is survived by a son, Stevie Bray; 3 step-sons and their wives, Kenny and Linda Kemp; Ronnie and Kendra Kemp; Jackie and Stacie Kemp, all of Lafayette, TN: a brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Wilma Bray, Bethpage, TN; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Jean Whittle, Russell Springs, KY; Rose Oldham, Hartsville, TN; Faye and Dwayne Marsh, of the Akersville Community; and Roy Creswell, Jeffersonville, IN; several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, James Bray and Raymond Bray, and 2 sisters, Pauline Kirby and Jerildean Creswell.  Funeral services for Jerry Bray were conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. J. B. Shoulders and Bro. Mike Gregorich officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Henry Holland, Chris Oldham, Tracy Bray, Allan Thompson, Robert Johnson, and Billy Joe Stafford.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

 

Jimmy Lee Brown, age 66, of Old Hwy. 31E, Westmoreland, TN, passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005 at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Rev. George Reed officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.  Honorary pallbearers were Ron Creasy, Billy Rickman, Dewayne Oldham, Darrell Graves, Mickey Lyles, David Brown; active pallbearers were Tommy Carter, Eugene Carter, Tony Creasy, Mike Kittrell, Davis Dorris, Benny Bills.  He was the son of the late James Harris Brown and Ura Lucille Carter Brown. He was married to Dixie Maynard Brown of Westmoreland, who survives. Mr. Brown was retired from Sumner County Board of Education. He was the principal of Westmoreland Elementary School.  Other survivors besides his wife include two sons, Tracy Brown and Mitch Brown, both of Westmoreland; two daughters, Cathy Kittrell and Angie Farmer, both of Westmoreland; one brother, Roger T. Brown, Westmoreland; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmorland in charge of arrangements.

 

Mrs. Mary Ann Carter, age 72, of Hawkins Drive, Westmore-land, passed away Sunday, August 28th.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 31, 3 p.m. at Westmoreland United Methodist Church with Rev. George Reed officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ricky Holmes, George Carter, Jeff Rippy, Chris Jones, Alex Jones, Foster Carter.  She was the daughter of the late Everett R. cobb and Clara Faye Hudson Cobb. She was married to Dr. Thomas F. Carter of Westmoreland who survives. She was a member of Westmoreland United Methodist Church, a retired medical technologist and served on the Sumner Co. Foster Care Board and United Way.  Survivors besides her husband include sons, Dr. Mark (Stefanie) Carter, Gallatin, David (Vickie) Carter, Castalian Springs; daughter, Beth (Chris) Jones, Westmoreland; seven grandchildren.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

 

James Thomas Denton, age 73, of 309 S. Magnolia St., Tompkinsville, KY, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 at Medical Center @ Scottsville.  He was born August 22, 1932 in Clay County, TN, the sonof the late Grover Denton and Avo (Grace) Denton. He was a carpenter and farmer and was a veteran of the Korean War.  Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, 2 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with Gerald Watt officiating. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Clay County. Military graveside service was held by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Claywell, Don Roddy, Eddie Denton, Nick Denton, Ray Denton, Joe Lee Walker; active pallbearers were Kevin Denton, Kyle Denton, James Denton, Randy Walker, Kris Denton and Ronnie Denton.  Survivors include three sons, Jimmy (Lynn) Denton, Scottsville, KY, Danny (Sis) Denton, Lafayette, Silas Waldamer, California; three brothers, Delbert Denton, Columbus, IN, Fowler Denton, Tompkinsville, KY, Darrell "Flee" Denton, Tompkinsville; three sisters, Marie Roddy, Indianapolis, Irene Denton and Molene Walker, both of Tompkinsville; special friend, Susan Waldamer, California; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two brothers, Bedford and Edward Denton, preceded him in death.

 

Mr. Hugh Bailey Dixon, age 89, of Carthage, TN, passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 25, 2005 at University Medical Center in Lebanon.  Mr. Dixon went into business in 1935 with a general merchandise and gas store, followed by building and International Harvestor business in Carthage. He created Dixon-Stubblefield Limestone Co. and Hugh Dixon Paving. He served 10 years in Tennessee State Legislature and stayed active in local and national policies.  He is survived by his wife, Vincey Dixon, Carthage; daughter, Martha Dixon, Hartsville; nephew, Mr. James (Sue) Dixon, Hartsville; two nieces, Becky Morgan and Connie Malone, Hartsville; three great-nephews, a great niece and a great-great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bailey Radford and Iva Lee Dixon; four brothers, Voyne, Harley, Clay and W.T. Dixon; and one sisters, Adele Yeargan.  Funeral services for Hugh Dixon were held Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, 2 p.m. at Anthony Funeral Home in Hartsville with Bro. Charles Gentry officiating. Burial was in Hartsville Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Robinson, Frankie Oldham, Ned Ray McWherter, former legislative colleagues, ICU Staff at UMC, Dr. James Woods, Dr. Kathleen Kearney, Kit Rush, Richard Thompson, Billy Gregory, Amanda (A.J.) Dalton, J.K. Ferrell, Walter Watson and David Foster. Active pallbearers were Chris Dixon, Clay Oldham, Paul Carson, Doug Scott, Randolph Kelley, Lester Poff, Phillip Evitts, James Dixon, David Belcher and Phillip O'Malley.  Anthony Funeral Home in Hartsville in charge of arrangements.

 

George E. "Stonefeather" Faulkner, Jr., age 51, of the Ottway Community, passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 20, 2005. Funeral services were held at Jeffers Mortuary Chapel on Friday, August 26, 2005.  Survivors are beloved wife, Debra Joan Wink "Neetee Sco"; mother, Barbara Faulkner of Zephyrhills, Florida; 2 daughters & a son-in-law, Jennifer & Jeffery Lathery of Nicholasville, KY and Katrina Faulkner of Lexington, KY; a son, George Faulkner; the mother of his children, Virginia Faulkner of Nicholasville, KY; grandchildren, Christopher Lathery, James Lathery, and Avery Faulkner Henson; stepchildren, Michael & Misti Swindle of Bethpage, TN and Beth Wink of Nashville; step-grandson, Braeden Swindle; sisters, Vicki Radcliff of Harrison, Ohio, Sandy Williams of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Norita Peine of Harrison, Ohio; brothers & sisters-in-law, Rick & Regina Faulkner of Harrison, Ohio and Gary & Leah Faulkner of Mobile, Alabama; brothers-in-law, James Leslie and Randy Dean of Greeneville; sisters-in-law, Brenda Schraner and Sandra Leslie of Rockport, Indiana and the Angels of Caris Hospice in Johnson City. He was preceded in death by his father, George E. Faulkner, Sr.  He was a member of the Native American Tribal Organizations and was a retired industrial worker, hypnotherapist, preacher and spiritual counselor.

 

Joseph Gibson, Jr., 79, of the Draperâs Crossroads Community, passed away Wednesday evening, August 24, 2005 at his residence. He was a native of Wayland, Kentucky, a retired ordinance man for the United States Navy, a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. On July 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Shirley Sorensen Gibson.  He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Shirley Gibson, of the Draperâs Crossroads Community; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Earl Strickland, Lafayette, TN; 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Kim Gibson, Lafayette, TN; Joseph and Gena Gibson, Fort Wayne, IN; James and Crystal Gibson, Miles M. and Kathy Gibson, all of Englewood, Florida; a brother, James Gibson, New Haven, IN; 3 sisters, Ethel Krueger, Libertyville, IL; Audrey Marshall, Atlanta, GA; and Mattie Gibson, Hyden, KY; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Roy Gibson and Ray Gibson, and 4 sisters, June Webb, Carrie Banks, Nell Hagewood, and Vernie Taylor.  Mr. Gibson was cremated and no services are planned at this time. Funeral services for Versie Anderson McDonald, age 92, of Hendersonville, and formerly of Lafayette, TN, were conducted on Monday, August 29, 2005 at 1:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Elder Ottis Jones and Elder Don Curtis officiating. Her grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Maple Grove Cemetery.  Mrs. Versie McDonald passed away Saturday morning, August 27, 2005 at Beverly Healthcare Brandywood in Gallatin.  A native of Smith County, TN. She was the daughter of the late Wade and Elizabeth Law Anderson. On June 1, 1929, she was married to Hollis McDonald, who survives. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Dawn Vanderpool Smith. She was a homemaker and a Charter member of the Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  Survivors, besides her husband of 76 years, include daughters: Rebecca (Bob) Vanderpool, Debbie (Steve) Hines; sons: Richard "Jim" McDonald, all of Hendersonville, TN, David (Marie) McDonald, Greenwood, IN, John (Clarice) McDonald, Dalton, GA, Samuel (Elaine) McDonald, Greenwood, IN; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.  Arrangements by the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Lafayette, TN.

Funeral services for Billie McClure Jenkins York, age 73, of Mt. Juliet, and formerly of Red Boiling Springs, TN were conducted Saturday morning, August 27, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Jimmy Cook officiating. Pallbearers were Nick Joinville, Ricky McClure, Garry Kirby, Harold Belle, Larry West, and Tony Young. Interment followed in the Smith Chapel Cemetery.  Mrs. York passed away Thursday morning, August 25, 2005, at the Mt. Juliet Health Care Center in Mt. Juliet, TN.  A native of Jackson County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Please and Aynell Gulley McClure. She was married to Lee York, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Blanche Belle Moss and her brothers, Leon and Paul McClure. She was a LPN at Macon County General Hospital, Carthage General and Donaldson Hospital with 32 years of service. She was also a member of the Willette Church of Christ.  Survivors include: daughter, Zoe Joinville; son, Eddie (Brenda) Jenkins; granddaughter, Deanna Jenkins, all of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandson, Nick (Tracy) Joinville; great-grandson, William Joinville, all of Tompkinsville, KY.  Arrangements by the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Red Boiling Springs, TN.
