William N. "Bill" Carver, 88, of 211 Bratton Avenue, Lafayette, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2005 at Sumner Regional Hospital in Gallatin.  The Macon County, TN native was a World War II Army veteran, a General Baptist and a former employee of General Motors and Avco in Nashville. He was a son of the late Gilbert Gibson Carver and Doo nie Sanders Carver and husband of the late Bessie Jane Law Carver.  He is survived by two step-sons, James Carter, Mooresville, IN and Lonnie Carter, Indianapolis, IN; one step-daughter, Janie Backer, Louisville, KY; several nieces & nephews.  Funeral services for William N. "Bill" Carver were held Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Hillus Pardue officiating. Burial was in Haysville Cemetery. 

Roger Dale Cross, 45, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette. The Tuscola, Illinois native was born November 9, 1959, a son of Henry Ted Cross and the late Mildred Louise Adkins Cross. He was a carpenter and was united in marriage on October 21, 1982 to Delilah Evans Cross.  He is survived by his wife, Delilah Evans Cross, of Lafayette, TN; 2 sons, Shaun Trent and Gage Cross, both of Lafayette, TN; 2 foster daughters, Nikki McKay, Lafayette, TN; and Alicia McKay, Red Boiling Springs, TN; his father, Henry Ted Cross, Red Boiling Springs, TN; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Teddy Ray and Janine Cross, Ogden, IL; Jayce and Barbara Cross, Lafayette, TN; David and Mai Cross, of the Oakdale Community; his mother-in-law, Lily Wolfe, Lafayette, TN; 3 sisters-in-law, Linda Evans, Red Boiling Springs, TN; Lillian Morgan, of the Cato Community; and Angel Gentry, Gallatin, TN; and four grandchildren.  Funeral services for Roger Dale Cross were conducted at 1:00 PM Sunday, February 13, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Herrington officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers were Shaun Trent, Josh Cross, Joseph Cross, Tom Cross, Matt Cross, and Mitch Goolsby.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lucye Long of Carthage died of cancer at her Jefferson Avenue East home at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon February 8, 2005. She was 83.  Services were conducted from the Carthage United Methodist Church by church pastor, Bro. Jerry Wallace. Following the 11:00 a.m. Thursday services, burial was in the Rob Draper Cemetery at Gainesboro.  Born Lucye Moore Maxwell on January 28, 1922 in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Johnson and Ida Ann Whitaker Maxwell. She had been a member of the Carthage United Methodist Church since 1946. She and her husband, the late Max Long moved to Carthage in 1946 from Jackson County and along with the late Frank Hire established the former Hire and Long Furniture Co. They were also co-owners of the former Hire and Long Furniture Co. with her brother, Carson Maxwell. Mr. Long preceded her in death on December 4, 2000.  She graduated from high school in 1939 in the program at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski. She was a member of the Carthage Bridge Society, the Daughters of American Revolution and the Thursday Dinner Club.  Surviving are her sons, South Carthage Pharmacist Alan Long and wife Suzette of Turkey Creek; Charles Long of Georgia; two sisters, Helen Draper of Gainesboro, Frances Chaffin and husband Willard of Warren, Michigan; two brothers, Carson Maxwell and wife Judy of the Bluff Creek Community, Fred Maxwell and wife Emma Jo of Livingston; five grandchildren, locally, Meredith Polston and husband Matt of Lafayette; and a great-granddaughter.  Sanderson of Carthage, directors.

Ruby Bullington Meador, 83, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Monday, February 7, 2005 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born February 10, 1921, a daughter of the late James Bullington and Fannie Mae Meador Bullington. She was a homemaker and wife of the late Claddie C. Meador.  She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Hoskins, Lafayette, TN; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Ronnie and JoAnn Meador, Westmoreland, TN; Bruce and Teresa Meador, Lafayette, TN; and Randall Meador, Knoxville, TN; 2 brothers, Euthon Bullington, Westmoreland, TN; and Harold Bullington, Hartsville, TN; a sister, Maybell Lyles, Westmoreland, TN; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by 2 daughters, Linda Meador and Brenda Kay Andrews; a son, Donnie Meador; 5 brothers, Hubert, Douglas, Alphis, Garland, and Hollis Bullington; and 3 sisters, Jessie Graves, Lura Carver, and Mary Magelene Bullington.  Funeral services for Ruby Bullington Meador were conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Rocky Mound Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Maxie Brawner and Bro. Tony Hopkins officiating. Burial was in Rocky Mound Cemetery. Pallbearers were Danny Meador, Darrell Meador, Jeremy Meador, Grady Bullington, Steve Robinson, and Jamie Bullington.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ellen "Tootie" Rather, 93, formerly of Scottsville, KY, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Britthaven of Bowling Green, KY. The Allen County, KY native was a former employee of Kentucky Pants Co. and Washington Overall Mfg. Co. and a member of Cedar Cross Missionary Baptist Church Church. She was a daughter of the late Drew Wood and Mary Della Calvert Wood and wife of the late Winford E. Rather.  She is survived by one son, Freddie Joe Carver and wife, Jerry Sue of Bowling Green; one daughter, Mary Gail Daughtry and husband Terry of Gallatin; one sister, Jeannie Underwood of Glasgow, KY; seven grandchildren, locally Kim Tuck and husband Tommy of Lafayette; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wilson Jarvis; and one sister, Lillie Foster.  Funeral services for Mary Ellen "Tootie" Rather were held Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Eric Lindeau and Bro. Ed Daughtry officiating. Burial was in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. 

Services for Mrs. Ruth Marie Johnson Woodcock were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home. Bro. Clive Bell officiated and interment was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.  Mrs. Woodcock, 52, of Lebanon, died Monday, January 24, 2005, at her home. The Wilson County native was born January 30, 1952, to Truman and Mary Belle Webb Johnson. The homemaker was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents.  Survivors include: her husband, Donald Woodcock; six children, Greg (Angie) and Ray Tuck, Chris, Donald Ray (Sue Lynn), Timmy (Rachel) and Kenny (Jennifer) Woodcock; two sisters, Marilyn Johnson and Trudy Moss; two brothers, Howard and Rob Johnson; and nine grandchildren.  Pallbearers were family and friends.

Mrs. Anna Louise Workman, age 82, of Hartsville, TN, died Sunday, February 6, 2005 at Comprehensive Care Center, Hartsville, TN.  She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Workman. She is survived by 6 sons, Mr. James Workman of Indiana, Mr. Larry Workman of Welch, West Virginia, Mr. Jeff Workman of Bradshaw, West Virginia, Mr. Robin Workman of Bluefield, West Virginia, Mr. Johnny Workman of Bluefield, West Virginia, and Mr. David Bowlen of War, West Virginia; a daughter, Mrs. Donna Peaks of Bluefield, West Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mrs. Zudie Delanie of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Helen Miller of Florida, Mrs. Betty Mabry of Florida, and Mrs. Gloria Linville of Indiana.  Graveside services were held at 1 PM on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the Yeager Cemetery, Roderfield, West Virginia, conducted by Rev. Michael Brooks.  Anthony Funeral Home, Hartsville, TN in charge of arrangements.
